Walk with Lifeline Queensland this World Suicide Prevention Day

We’re hosting a range of walks across Queensland on and around World Suicide Prevention Day (10 September), as part of our Out of the Shadows events.

Together, we’ll bring compassion to those impacted by suicide and show strength in breaking the stigma of talking about it.

Join us to honour those we’ve lost, to walk in memory of a loved one, or as a heartfelt tribute to a friend or family member. Or simply come to stand in support of Australians experiencing emotional distress or mental health challenges.

However you take part, your presence shines a light in the darkness, offering hope, understanding, and a reminder that none of us walk alone.

Out of the Shadows Walks – Queensland 2025

Townsville

📍 The Rock Pool at the Strand, Townsville

📅 Wednesday 10 September 2025

🕒 Meet from 5:45am, walk starts 6:00am

· This year marks the 12th annual Out of the Shadows walk in Townsville, North Queensland.

· We welcome our lived experience community to come together in a safe space to remember lives lost to suicide, and support those impacted today.

· The walk begins at the Rock Pool Pavilion and continues 650m down the Strand, ending at the Stuart Street Headland/The Pier.

· The morning includes time for reflection, lived experience speakers, and a free community BBQ.

Sunshine Coast - Maroochydore/Caloundra

📍 Happy Valley, Bulcock Beach, Caloundra (near cnr. Latona Ave & Esplanade)

🕒 Meet from 8:45am, ceremony at 9:00am

Join us for a ceremony of remembrance, followed by a walk:

• 1 km walk: From Happy Valley to Kings Beach along the boardwalk.

• Optional 9 km walk: Continue along the Coastal Walk to the turnaround at Tooway Creek bridge (4.5 km), then return.

Afterwards, enjoy light refreshments back at Bulcock Beach with beautiful views.

Gold Coast

📍 Greenheart Parklands, Stadium Drive, Robina (Meeting point: Amenities & BBQ area adjacent to the playground)

🕒 Walks commence from 3:00pm (9km walk); shorter walks (4km & 1km) to begin at varying times
Formal event activities from 5:00pm. Event concludes at 6:30pm

· Walk through the parklands along dedicated footpaths with 1km, 4km, and 9km routes.

· Volunteers and signage will guide the way.

· Everyone is encouraged to finish by 5pm for a shared formal program including:

· Welcome to Country & Smoking Ceremony

· Lived Experience Speaker/s

· Sausage Sizzle

· Live Entertainment

Rockhampton

· Let’s bring suicide prevention Out of the Shadows and into the light.

Fraser District – Maryborough

· Gather at the Brolga Theatre before walking to the River Stage for reflection.

· Hear from guest speakers and access support resources.

· Enjoy a community breakfast and coffee.

· All are welcome – feel free to invite others.

Fraser District – Hervey Bay
