Tragically, over 3,000 Australians lose their lives to suicide every year. Join Lifeline Queensland on World Suicide Prevention Day, 10 September 2023, to help Australians come Out of the Shadows and into the light. Join us to walk 9km anywhere, any time, for the 9 Australians lost to suicide every day. Together we will ensure that no one has to face their darkest moments alone. Funds raised will go to Lifeline Queensland to ensure that our Crisis Supporters have all the training, equipment & support they need to save lives & give hope 24/7.

Lifeline Brisbane

Details: A short walk to remember those who we love who have been lost to suicide. Followed by a BBQ breakfast and coffee where we can connect those who are bereaved with others who are bereaved and their support services. We are again partnering with Standby, an organisation that provides support after suicide.

Lifeline Gold Coast

Where: Start at Macintosh Island Park; 30min walk to beach location at the front of the Q1 building

Details: We will meet at Macintosh Island Park just before 4pm to start the Walk at 4pm. From there we will walk to Surfers Paradise Beach (about a 30-min walk). We will gather on the beach at the front of the Q1 building where we will hear from a guest speaker with lived experience of suicidality. The Q1 building tower will light up in orange and yellow. The colours orange and yellow are on the suicide awareness ribbon. The ribbon represents a flame, a light in the darkness. It is a symbol of hope and possibility. We will share nibbles and chats on the beach between 5pm and 5:30pm and then watch the sunset to conclude the Walk. We are partnering with the Gold Coast Primary Health Network (Regional Suicide Prevention Program).

Details: Please join Lifeline in marking World Suicide Prevention Day 2024 with our annual Out of the Shadows Walk. Meeting at 5:30am across from the WW2 Memorial Pool on Huish Drive, walk with us to watch the sunrise along our Fitzroy River before spending the morning at our Reflection Space. Help celebrate Lifeline Crisis Supporters and the amazing work they do and join us to reaffirm our commitment to an Australia free of suicide. Proudly supported locally by the Central Queensland Suicide Prevention Network.

Details: Join us as we reflect on those lost to suicide with a short ceremony and then go for a walk together around the lake, followed by morning tea provided.  Anyone is invited so feel welcome to bring along any family, friends, work colleagues. Ipswich Lifeline have been running this event since 2012. We will be joined by Ipswich Suicide Prevention Awareness Network - Connections for Life.

Details: In 2024, we mark the 11th annual Out of the Shadows walk in Townsville, North Queensland. The Townsville Out of the Shadows remembrance walk welcomes our lived experience community. We provide a safe space to come together and remember those lives lost to suicide, while supporting those impacted by suicide today. Through connection and the voices of others, we unite to raise awareness and overcome the stigma surrounding suicide and suicide prevention. Please join join us on Tuesday September 10th from 5:45am to walk out in the dark and into the light of a new day. Our walk commences at the Rock Pool Pavilion and continues 650m down the Strand, ending at the Stuart Street Headland/The Pier. We support the Townsville community through our event providing time for reflection, lived experience speakers, and a community BBQ. it would be wonderful if our community could count on your support this year.
