Mabu Liyan mob

Out of the Shadows 2023

We did it ✨

Well done mabu liyan (good wellbeing) family and everyone who came today, or donated and sent messages of support. My heart is full from you all.

We raised $3191 for Lifeline (Ph: 131 114 or 0477 131 114) and had 57 people, including young bubs come early this morning to make it the special walk/run and cycle that it was.

Special shout out to the Darwin Deadlies, Jye and Jack Strugnell for their support and making the day more special with medals. Feel free to check out the Darwin Deadlies group on Facebook or Instagram for the regular group walks and runs and Nightcliff parkrun Facebook page - open to all - which lots of our family have enjoyed together. Also SabrinasReach4Life Darwin has a monthly peer support group for those bereaved by suicide worth checking out, it's very casual and has helped me (Yasmin) personally - see their Facebook or website for more info.

You can check out photos from today on the Facebook event page - https://facebook.com/events/s/world-suicide-prevention-day-o/1014642853313937/

Look after yourselves and your families, your liyan, and keep your loved ones close 💙

Thanks everyone and we'll be back again next year. Elle and Yasmin Jarman x

Bring: water, hat, towel and sunscreen. There are two bubblers along the track and we'll also have water at the start/finish line.

Thank you so much to those who have RSVP'd and those who donated or supported the walk/run, including Darwin Deadlies group.

We'd love everyone coming to 'join us' (yellow button) on the fundraising page and share with others that you're walking/running with us for World Suicide Prevention Day, in memory of Daniel and/or other loved ones and raising awareness for the important mabu liyan/wellbeing focus in our families and communities and raising some money to support the work of Lifeline. 'Joining us' through this link will help Lifeline get a better indication of numbers of people taking part in the walk/run and we might get a few more donations too - https://www.outoftheshadowswalk.org.au/fundraisers/MabuLiyanmob?fbclid=IwAR2iJk9qMR0SXC1q81Io2zakvndHYk95G9XxDfEnrWWDJCqRDG7xQpxEoOo

Jarman sisters and family are running/walking to remember their brother DJ

Tragically, every year over 65,000 Australians attempt to take their own life and over 3,000 Australians die by suicide. We have been devastated since losing our beautiful brother DJ last year to suicide. We wish more than anything that he had called us, Lifeline or medical services and reached out.

Lifeline receives over 1 million contacts from people in crisis each year.

On World Suicide Prevention Day, Elle and Yasmin Jarman and family will be running/walking in loving memory of their proud Wadjigan, Yawuru, Larrakia and Torres Strait Islander saltwater brother DJ and for the 9 people lost to suicide every day. Sadly, we have lost too many family members and friends to suicide, we will be walking and running for them too.

Please support our run on Sunday morning 10 Sept, around East Point, Darwin (further details coming of location/time). Come walk or run or bike ride with us - doesn't have to be for the whole distance, can even come sit at the finish line, walk/run wherever you are, share our fundraising page or sponsor us to help those in crisis.

Together, we can make sure that no one has to face their darkest moments alone.

Our family are determined to do what we can to spread mabu liyan, the Yawuru/Kimberley Aboriginal concept of strong health and wellbeing through strong connections to family, community and country, and invite everyone along on this part of our mabu liyan journey.

With love, Elle and Yasmin Jarman and families 🤍

Our impact so far

We've raised $3,238 so far to answer 83 calls for Lifeline's crisis support hotline to connect and bring hope to people in crisis.
