I'm walking to remember those lost to suicide and help people in crisis
September 10th is World Suicide Prevention Day.
Suicide has a devastating impact on families, friends, loved ones, workplaces, schools and communities. Tragically, over 65,000 Australians attempt to take their own life every year and over 3,000 Australians die by suicide.
In order to support suicide prevention services such as Lifeline and support Australians in need, I am walking 70km to honour the 9 people lost to suicide every day and acknowledge the grief experienced by those left behind.
Lifeline receives over 1 million contacts across their online, text and phone services from people in crisis every year. On average, this means around 5 people will reach out to Lifeline every minute. If you or someone you love is struggling, you can chat to a Lifeline crisis supporter anytime by calling 13 11 14.
Please support my walk and sponsor me to help bring hope to people in their darkest hour by making sure someone is able to take the call that may save their life.
My impact so far
I've raised $286 so far to answer 7 calls for Lifeline's crisis support hotline to connect and bring hope to people in crisis.
With your support, we can ensure that no person has to face their darkest moments alone.

Thank you for walking the 70km Caitlin. That is huge. Lifeline has helped me a few times so I'd love to contribute. I've been in and out of hospitals for years fighting urges of suicide and working on ptsd. I always felt such shame for having mental health issues, disregulated emotions, and for being trans. I was hiding in plain sight doing my best to mask and numb emotions every day wishing I could just cease to exist. Turns out I was and am also autistic so the rules at school were kind of my best friend but also my worst enemy. The all or nothing thinking I had made that goal of being a saint on earth unattainable so in my mind no matter what good I did I was still hellbound. I judged myself so harshly against a standard of perfect while in the meantime I was experiencing grooming and sexual abuse throughout my teens and into my twenties which made me feel like even more of a fraud to even be associated with the school and that shame was unbearable when I became school captain. It was a lot. But I just wanted to say I'm really thankful I met you and Emily there. You were always both really really kind to me and I was weird, and unpredictable and very full on like a lot of times but you were both always kind to me and it helped me through a lot of dark days so thank you. Keep being you and thank you for being there for me and others during really shitty times :)
