we couldn't walk besides you then, so we'll walk for you now
we all learned it as children: stop, look both ways, and then cross the street. but sometimes we become so focused on moving forward that we forget to stop and notice what is happening around us.losing someone to suicide leaves behind a grief that is unexplainable, it leaves us with questions that will never be answered, conversations we wish we could have had, and a ache that can surface on a warm summers evening.
kayla and i both know this kind of loss, we both know the darkness, and we both know the battles it takes to step into tomorrow.
this World Suicide Prevention Day we are walking for those we have lost, for the versions of ourselves we have fought to keep alive, and for every person quietly wondering whether tomorrow is worth reaching.
every step carries a story, a memory, a battle, a person, and a reason to keep going.
this is more than a walk, it is a declaration that our stories do not end with our darkest moments, and that grief is a reminder of how much unspoken love there is in our world.
we walk for the people still here, we walk for ourselves and we walk for everyone that forgot to look both ways before crossing that street.
