Join Lifeline Queensland for World Suicide Prevention Day
Out of the Shadows is a national Lifeline event, but it really comes to life in the small, local moments we share here in Queensland.We’re hosting walks across Queensland on and around World Suicide Prevention Day (10 September), and you’re welcome to take part in whatever way feels right for you. Come along for a walk, or get involved as a fundraiser to help Lifeline Queensland be there when someone reaches out, day or night.
For a lot of people, it’s simple. It’s about showing up. Stepping outside, walking alongside others, and knowing there are people around you who care.
We’ll head out in local parks, along coastal paths and through neighbourhood streets. And if you’re in a rural or remote community where we haven’t been able to host a walk this year, you can still take part wherever you are — on your property, down a country road, or in your local town. Come with a friend, family member or workmate, or just yourself. There’s space for everyone.
Lifeline Centres are located throughout Queensland, with dedicated staff and volunteers supporting local communities every day. On World Suicide Prevention Day, we invite community members, families, friends and supporters to join us at an Out of the Shadows Walk in their region. Whether you are walking in memory of a loved one, standing alongside someone impacted by suicide, or simply showing your support for suicide prevention, everyone is welcome. Together, we can create connection, foster hope and help bring suicide prevention out of the shadows and into the light.
Cairns
Location: Cairns Esplanade Healing Gardens
Date: Thursday 10 September 2026
Time: 5.30pm
Meet at the Healing Gardens (opposite Seabreeze Cafe and Cairns Hospital) from 5.15pm before we walk together along the Cairns Esplanade at 5.30pm.
Following the walk, join us for a free BBQ and hear from speakers sharing their lived experience.

Townsville
Location: Strand Rockpool
Date: Thursday 10 September 2026
Time: 5.45am
Meet at the Strand Rockpool for a 650m community walk along The Strand, finishing at the Jetty. Following the walk, stay for a free BBQ, hear from lived experience speakers and enjoy a choir performance.

Hervey Bay
Location: Pier Park, Urangan
Date: Thursday 10 September 2026
Time: 5.30am
Meet at Pier Park and walk together along the park pathway and onto the Pier as the sun rises out of the shadows. A reflection will be held on the Pier at sunrise, followed by refreshments, poetry and shared reflections back at the park.

Meet at the Bargara Streetscape Decking as we come together for a moment of reflection through heartfelt poetry before beginning our walk to Nielson Park Beach Surf Life Saving Club.

Location: Alf Kele Memorial Park, Huish Drive

Time: 5.30am
Meet at Alf Kele Memorial Park before walking to the Reflection Space opposite Huish Drive Bowls Club. The walk will pause at the Huish Drive Pontoon to watch the sunrise.

Sunshine Coast
Location: Meet at Happy Valley, Bulcock Beach, Caloundra (near cnr. Latona Ave & Esplanade, Bulcock Beach)
Date: Thursday 10 September 2026
Time: 7.45am
Join us for a walk to Kings Beach (approx. 1km) along the boardwalk.
For those wanting to walk 9km, you can follow the signs along the Coast Walk to the 4.5km turnaround point at Moffat Beach, enjoying the beautiful views along the way.
Light refreshments will be available back at Happy Valley, Bulcock Beach after your walk.

Location: Orleigh Park, West End
Date: Thursday 10 September 2026
Time: 5.30am
Meet at Orleigh Park (open grassy area near the pergola) to connect before we walk along the riverside pathway as the sun rises out of the shadows. Following the walk, stay for a time of community connection.

Gold Coast
Location: Greenheart Robina Parklands
Date: Thursday 10 September 2026
Time: 3.00pm to 6.00pm
Starting and finishing at the yellow gate near the BBQ area, this 9km walk winds through the parklands before returning to the starting point. Along the way, participants are invited to take part in a community chalk activity.

Date: Saturday 12 September 2026
Time: 8am
