I'm walking to remember those lost to suicide and help people in crisis

This year, I’m not walking because suicide is just a statistic to me.

I’m walking because it has a name.
Cohen.

In 2024, I lost my beautiful niece, Cohen Sage Lee, to suicide. Losing her changed my life and our family forever. There are some losses you learn to carry, but never truly get over — and Cohen’s absence is one of them.

She was so much more than the way she died. She was deeply loved, wonderfully unique, and someone who left a mark on the people lucky enough to know her. I would give anything for her to still be here.

On World Suicide Prevention Day, September 10, I’ll be taking part in Lifeline’s Out of the Shadows walk.

I’ll be walking for Cohen.
I’ll be walking for every family who knows the devastation of losing someone they love to suicide.
And I’ll be walking for the people who are struggling right now, quietly fighting battles that the people around them may know nothing about.

Every day in Australia, lives are lost to suicide. Behind every number is a person. A family. Friends. A future that should have had more chapters.

I can’t change what happened to Cohen, no matter how desperately I wish I could. But I can carry her with me and try to turn some of the pain of losing her into something that may help another person stay.

I’m raising money for Lifeline so that when somebody reaches their darkest moment, there is someone there to answer. Someone to listen. Someone to remind them that their story does not have to end there.
