'I’m walking for Jack. I’m walking for myself. I’m walking for every survivor who chose to stay, and for my daughter’s future.

Tragically, every year over 65,000 Australians attempt to take their own life, and over 3,000 die by suicide—that is 9 lives lost every single day. Behind each statistic is a person, a story, and loved ones left navigating profound grief. Lifeline receives over 1 million contacts each year from people in crisis, offering a critical compassionate ear when it matters most.

These numbers are not just statistics to me—they are deeply personal. I am a firm believer that if you don’t make time for your wellness, you will eventually have to make time for an illness. Having fought through my own suicide attempts, and having lost one of my closest friends, Jack, on September 21st, 2018, I know firsthand how devastatingly heavy these moments can be.

This World Suicide Prevention Day (September 10), I am taking part in Out of the Shadows. I am walking in memory of Jack, for everyone who has ever carried the pain of losing someone to suicide, and for myself. Today, I live in hope—for my own future, for my daughter, and for anyone still searching for light in the dark.

I am raising funds for Lifeline so they can continue delivering life-saving crisis support to Australians in need.
