We're walking to remember those lost to suicide and help people in crisis

Walking for Zac 💙

I’m taking part in the Out of the Shadows Walk in memory of my brother, Zac.

Losing Zac to suicide changed my life forever. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think about him or wish he was still here. I miss his laugh more than I can put into words, and the way he had this incredible ability to make everyone around him feel welcome, included and valued. That was just who he was.

One of the hardest things for people to understand is that Zac wasn’t alone. He had people who loved him deeply. He had support. He had family and friends who would have done absolutely anything for him. And yet, we still lost him. Suicide is complex, and love on its own isn’t always enough to save someone who is struggling.

I’m walking to honour Zac’s life, not just how we lost him. I’m walking so his kindness, his warmth and the way he made people feel are never forgotten. I’m also walking in the hope that by raising awareness, reducing stigma and supporting suicide prevention, more people can access the help they need before it’s too late, and fewer families have to experience the heartbreak that ours has.

If Zac’s story encourages even one person to reach out for help, check in on someone they love, or reminds someone that they are not alone, then his legacy will continue to make a difference.
