Tribute Wall

Forever in our hearts.

On World Suicide Prevention Day (Sept 10), we're walking together as a community to remember those lives we've lost to suicide and to help Australians in crisis.

To everyone who is suffering

"Hi, to everyone who is suffering. You are not alone. "

The quiet dads

"You don't have to suffer alone. We know how hard you work to make all happy. It's okay to feel vulnerable. It's okay to take time off for yourself. There are people around you who can share at least the emotion burdens! "

- Syed S

DennisSaf

"You commit an error. Write to me in PM, we will discuss. https://continent-telecom.com/"

- DennisSaf

Mick Durston

"I love that you fished, played the drums, drank gay rum and just did you. I'm sorry you couldn't see that you had all these people that loved you and would've loved to help you, miss ya brother "

To everyone suffering

"We're all in this together. You are NEVER alone"

- Neema

My mum

"Hey Ma, I’m so proud of the person you are and everything you’ve become. You grew up alongside me from such a young age, and seeing you now doing what you love honestly makes me incredibly proud. I’m proud of you for everything you’ve been through, all the sacrifices you’ve made, and everything you’ve overcome from such a young age until now. Somehow, you still continue to do so much not only for me, but for everyone you care about and love. You have no idea how much of an impact you’ve had on the people around you, especially me. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without you. I love you so much, Ma ❤️"

- Jay

Aunty Symone

"In memory of my aunt, who we lost to suicide a few years ago. We still love you, miss you, and carry your memory with us. Your life mattered, and you will always have a place in our hearts. To anyone who needs to hear it keep talking and reach out when things feel heavy. Keep going for the people who love you, for the moments you haven’t lived yet, and for the possibility of a life that feels lighter than today. You don’t have to face it alone. "

- Torah

There is always Hope

"Connect and Converse Check in on others: Reach out to friends, family, or coworkers with a simple text or call to ask how they are really doing. Listen without judgment: Give people a safe, empathetic space to share their feelings without fear or criticism. Know the warning signs: Watch for extreme mood changes, withdrawal from friends, talking about feeling hopeless, or giving away belongings"

Roy Forbes

"In memory of my kind and gentle Dad. Too beautiful for this world. "

- Heidi

Lissa

"I still talk to you often Lick (Lissa) , sometimes I’m angry, sometimes I’m sad, but most I think of you with so much love that’s why your loss hurts soo much , you saw me so clearly that I never had a masks with you , you were the 1st person who truly made me feel seen and understood, you definitely knew me better than I knew myself.. I wish I had understood how the mirror works and that you seeing me was both a projection and a reflection of us both , you saw me clearly because we masked the same way.. listening to Nina’s words at the funeral and the systems she described were similar if not identical to the way I used those same systems…. And they worked until they don’t and when mine failed I feel into addiction, and that numbing saved my life , it allowed me an escape from the internal pain and the stories I wasn’t ready to go through to heal , and no I’m not advocating for anyone to turn to drug/substance abuse, because that’s a hard road home to yourself on top of the trauma that was underneath but dissociated from since childhood bought to the surface by yet another failed relationship domestic violence abuse at the hands of yet another person who should not have harmed me , telling me that was love … my diagnosis for CPTSD came just a few weeks after your passing as for the 2nd time all my systems failed.., I didn’t not want to feel your loss, and the loss of so many of us .. your daughter & your family… but this time I was brave and I sat with each feeling as the came .. I wasn’t going to numb you out and I wasn’t going to relapse back into to addiction.. i wanted to feel every part of our friendship and every emotion i have for you… and will always come in waves and it always lands on love .. i wish we had more time together before you chose to exit .. i will love you for the rest of this lifetime and you better believe I’ll find you in our next 🫶💔😢"

- Nadia (Nadz) 💔🫶😢

Annie Schyvens

"Forever in our hearts. Missing you so much. Coming up to 1 year since you left us on 23/09/2025 and feeling all that sadness again. Love you."

"This message is for anyone who reads it. May you live your life with the understanding that it's ok to make mistakes. It's ok to feel low. It's ok to just be you without compromise. Everyone is flawed and that's what makes humanity so beautiful. Keep on going! You got this! "

You are loved

"You are never alone, you are worthy of love and support, you are never a burden. And you never know how precious you are to those around you even when you’re not your best self. There is always a chance to turn your life around; even a quiet life, a less materialistic life, a humble life is worth fighting for. Sometimes the happiest person in the room is hiding an immense inner turmoil. Don’t turn your back on your loved one just because they are acting out of turn or out of sorts. A kind word and a compassionate gesture can prevent a tragic outcome. There is always a small joy to be found in every day, there is always a way through an overwhelming life chapter. It’s ok to walk away from the thing you thought was your calling, it’s ok to change your mind, it’s ok to say no to the thing that’s breaking your spirit. Keep yourself safe and sometimes we can find solace in the most unlikely places, do the kind deed for a stranger. We’re all in this one life together. Look out for one another and offer a smile, a story, a kind deed or a small favour. It can have a bigger impact than you know. "

- M.G

To Everyone

"We all go thru difficult times and cope differently as well. Despite that please know that you are not alone, please reach out when you feel like its getting out of hand and it okay not to be okay all the time what matters is you are making an effort to make it through the day. "

- LV

“Are you okay?” and staying present long enough to hear the answer.

"I imagine you are somewhere above us, hoping we learn how to respond with greater care to the crisis here below. We hear you. We remember the loved ones who found this world too difficult to remain in. By stepping out of the shadows and speaking openly about suicide, we honor them. These can be difficult words to say—even among family and close friends—but silence can leave people feeling more alone. Their lives will not be forgotten. During my Walk for a Cause, I shared this message with a 94-year-old woman who regularly walks the streets in my neighborhood. If I can start a conversation about suicide with her, then each of us can find the courage to have these conversations with the people in our own lives. Support is available. Trained crisis professionals are only a phone call away. I encourage you to practice with someone you trust—a friend, family member, or colleague—what you might say if you were worried about a loved one. Let them know you have noticed something is not right, that they do not have to face it alone, and that help is available. In my work, I sometimes call a crisis line with a client beside me and the phone on speaker. The crisis worker can then explain what a typical call is like and help make the process feel less intimidating for someone experiencing emotional distress, mental-health concerns, suicidal thoughts, or thoughts of acting on a suicide plan. Anything unfamiliar can feel awkward at first. You do not need to have the perfect words or get everything right. You only need to be willing to begin the conversation. If someone seems unusually withdrawn, low, anxious, hopeless, is giving away belongings, or is behaving in ways that concern you, reach out. Ask how they are doing. Listen without judgment. Remind them that they matter—and that help is available. Courage does not mean having all the answers; sometimes it simply means asking, “Are you okay?” and staying present long enough to hear the answer."

"John (not a real name) was a good schoolmate, friendly, and we played cricket together and got up to mischief as teenagers. Life changed; we drifted apart but kept occasional contact, and both got married and had kids. Last year, it came as a shock that he committed suicide. Didn't see that coming: successful career, well off, loving family... So, I am walking 63 KM this year in your memory; no one has to go through the pain and leave behind a grieving family. Support Lifeline so that one phone call to Lifeline means one life saved!"

"I found myself lost, alone, felt unwanted, didn’t even know who I was. It took no less than a few seconds and I found myself in a place I had never expected. I woke and I was I hospital wondering how I had even done such a thing, realising I’d let all the darkness make decisions for myself that were all wrong. I’m now a survivor living with a second chance. Now been so close to the end has me feeling like I’m going to be a stronger version of myself before all of this. I will be here for anyone that wants or needs me step in the way of the darkness making decisions. For me to do this is the gift I’ve been giving and I call it the Second Chance at Life."

"There were moments when everything felt too heavy, when you couldn’t make sense of what you were feeling or see how things could ever get better. But somehow, you kept going. You made it through the days you didn’t think you could, and the nights that seemed like they would never end. You kept taking one step at a time, even when you had no idea where those steps would lead. Today, I’m walking these 9km for anyone who is quietly struggling, carrying pain they don’t know how to put into words. If you’re reading this and you’re having a hard time, please stay. You don’t need to have everything figured out. You don’t need to know what tomorrow looks like. Just give yourself the chance to see what comes next. One day, you may look back and realise that the life you couldn’t imagine was still waiting for you. This walk is my reminder that there can be a life beyond the pain. Keep going. One day at a time. You’re worth staying for 🩵"

"In memory of Ange There's not really a day that goes past that I don't feel you walking with me — especially on the hard ones, when the whole world feels like it could swallow you up from underneath your feet. I'm reminded of your beautiful laugh, our silly times, the moments we grieved and fought and were angry together, and just as often, the moments we found peace in each other. I miss you terribly, and I hate that we lost you. But I'm so grateful to have known you. My love to you always, Ange."

"63km. 7 days. One step at a time. 💙 I’m walking for mental health, depression and suicide awareness. I’m walking for myself, and for every person who has struggled, is struggling, or has ever felt like they had to fight their battles alone. The struggle doesn’t always just disappear. Some days are easier than others, and sometimes simply putting one foot in front of the other is an achievement. But having people around you, having support available, and knowing there is somewhere to turn can make the biggest difference. Over these 7 days, every kilometre means something. For the battles people see. For the battles they don’t. For those still fighting. For those we’ve lost. And for the people who stand beside us when we need them most. 63km for awareness. 63km for support. 63km to remind people that reaching out matters. One step. One kilometre. One day at a time. 💙"

I walk in her honour, but also for every person who has felt like they had no way out, and for every family left behind carrying the pain. I know what it feels like to struggle. I know how dark life can feel when you believe there is no other option. My hope is that by sharing Mum’s story, we can remind people they are not alone. That asking for help is not weakness. That one conversation, one person reaching out, one moment of support can save a life. Mum, I wish you were here to see this. "I don’t think I’ll ever have the right words for how much it hurts that you’re not here. There are still moments where it doesn’t feel real. Moments where I wish more than anything that I could see you again, hear your voice, give you one more hug, or just have one more ordinary moment with you. I would give anything for that. My heart breaks knowing how much pain you must have been carrying while still being such a beautiful person to everyone around you. You had the most gentle and pure soul, and a heart that cared so deeply. Even when you were struggling yourself, you still made sure the people around you felt loved, supported and comforted. You gave so much of yourself to others, even when you were hurting more than any of us truly knew. I just wish you could have seen yourself through our eyes. I wish you knew how loved you were. How much you mattered. How much your presence meant. How many people would give anything to have you back. There are so many “I wish I hads” and “what ifs” that come with losing you, and some days they are unbearable. I wish I could go back and tell you everything I know now. I wish I could have taken even a little bit of that pain away from you. Most of all, I just wish you were still here. I miss knowing that you exist somewhere in this world. I miss the person you were, your beautiful heart, and the life you should still be living. I hope wherever you are now, your mind is finally quiet. I hope you’re surrounded by all the things you loved — nature, peace, and the most beautiful garden imaginable. I hope somehow you know that you are still so deeply loved down here. Tomorrow, I’ll walk every one of those 9 kilometres with you in my heart. Every step will be for you, and for every person who has ever felt the kind of pain you carried so quietly. I would walk a million more if it meant I could bring you home. I love you. I miss you more than words could ever explain, and I’ll carry you with me for the rest of my life. 🤍🌿"

Anita Ajing

"A Tribute to Myself To the girl I was when life felt too heavy, I see you. I see all the years you spent carrying things you were never supposed to carry alone. I see the days you smiled when you were hurting, the nights you cried quietly, and the moments when you genuinely wondered whether you could keep going. You struggled with your mental health from such a young age. There were times when the pain became so overwhelming that you had thoughts of ending your life. You didn’t always know how to explain what you were feeling, and sometimes you probably didn’t even understand it yourself. But somehow, you stayed. Not because everything suddenly became easy. Not because you always felt hopeful. You stayed through the days you didn’t want to. You stayed through the nights that felt endless. You stayed long enough to become the person standing here today. And I am so proud of you for that. I want to thank the younger version of me for surviving things she never thought she’d have to. I want to forgive her for the times she struggled, for the times she felt like she wasn’t enough, and for every moment she thought she was a burden. She was never a burden. She was a young girl who needed love, patience, understanding and someone to tell her that her life was worth fighting for. And now I get to tell her. Your life is worth fighting for. There is so much you haven’t experienced yet. So many people you haven’t met, places you haven’t seen, dreams you haven’t reached, and versions of yourself you haven’t become. You made it through the chapters that nearly broke you. Now you get to write the chapters that heal you. This isn’t a tribute to the pain. It’s a tribute to me. To my strength. To my resilience. To every morning I woke up. To every time I chose one more day. To the girl who didn’t know how she’d make it, but did anyway. I am still here. And I am not finished with my story. Chapter 18 is not the end. It’s proof that I made it this far. The best chapters are still waiting for me."

Unanswered calls

"No one should have to face their darkest moments alone. I’m walking to raise awareness and funds for suicide prevention. 9 people a days is 9 people too many. "

To all who suffer, and those that help the suffering.

"I’m doing this for you, all of you. The last time I raised money and awareness for Lifeline was largely for myself way back in 2013. I ran the Sydney Marathon to show myself I could do anything, to build my mental resilience and in doing this I chose to raise money for Lifeline. In choosing to raise money for Lifeline I started to speak to others about my own battles, not much detail but just shared the mental load I had carried for so long, having only occasionally shared things with my rock, my wife now of 30 years, Tanya. In doing this sharing I realised how helpful it is to talk, so here I am again, many years later, raising funds for Lifeline to enable those that feel they have no one or feel they need professional help to have an avenue for that help. With Lifeline available, no one is ever alone. Please pick up the phone, text, chat or even talk to someone, share the load, it really does help and be the beginning of a much happier life for you, those you love, and those that love you. 131114"

"For Dylan, You are loved, you are missed, and you will never be forgotten. I hope by taking part in this walk, we can help shine a little light into someone else’s darkest moments and remind them that they never have to face them alone. Your life mattered. Your story mattered. And your memory will continue to matter."

"I still struggle to understand why you had to leave this world so soon. There are so many things I wish I could say to you, so many memories I wish we could make, and so many moments I wish I could relive with you. You were more than my best friend. You were my safe place, my confidant, my laughter, and a part of my heart. I will forever treasure the conversations, the smiles, the silly moments, and all the memories we shared. Although your life was far too short, the love you gave and the memories you left behind will stay with me forever. I hope you are finally at peace, free from the pain you carried silently. I miss you more than words can say. Your absence will always hurt, but I will carry your memory with me for the rest of my life. Until we meet again, my beautiful friend. You will never be forgotten. ❤️🕊️"

"Not a day goes past when I don't think, dream or miss you. You were so loved and the world is not the same since you left us. I promise to fight for you and all those that feel as you did every day. I walk for all those that fear the unknown, but take the step into it. At 15, you had so much more to do, but I take comfort that you are at peace, watching over us all. "

"I am walking in remembrance of my handsome baby brother Mahonlai. He was only 13 years old when his life was cut short. I miss you more than you know mahonlai. Best little brother anyone could’ve asked for❤️‍🩹 He was the most selfless little guy I knew. He loved to play video games with his friends, play with his niece & definitely enjoyed teasing his sisters. He had the biggest smile, the cutest big laugh. We still had so much growing to do together. We were supposed to grow together, still had so many birthdays to celebrate & a bunch of memories we were supposed to continue making. I love you so much my brother. 13 Years of loving & growing with you, a lifetime of grieving you❤️‍🩹 Forever13 "

Out of the Shadows 🖤

"Suicide awareness is something close to my heart. I’ve had moments where the darkness felt overwhelming, and I’ve experienced what it’s like to struggle just to keep moving forward. I’m grateful to have made it through those moments, but I’ve also learned that overcoming something doesn’t mean the battle disappears forever. Some days are harder than others. Healing isn’t always a straight line, and sometimes simply getting through the day is an achievement in itself. That’s why we need to keep talking. We need to check in on one another, listen without judgement, and remind people that they don’t have to carry their pain alone. If you’re walking through your own darkness right now, please keep going. Reach out. Tell someone. Take it one day, one hour, or even one moment at a time. There is life beyond the shadows, even when you can’t see it yet. Keep carrying on. Keep reaching out. Keep choosing another day. For everyone walking Out of the Shadows — you are not alone. 🖤 #SuicideAwareness #OutOfTheShadows #MentalHealthAwareness #KeepGoing #YouAreNotAlone"

Hannah Rachael Pratt

"For my beautiful daughter, Hannah 💙 My darling girl, I would give anything for you to still be here. You were only 25, and there was still so much life waiting for you — so many birthdays, adventures, ordinary days, laughs and memories that we should have had together. I hope you knew how deeply you were loved. I hope you knew how much you mattered. And I hope, wherever you are, you can see just how many hearts you left your footprints on. I don’t want you to ever be remembered simply for the way you died. You were so much more than that. You were Hannah. You were my beautiful, funny, cheeky girl with that unforgettable laugh. You were a daughter, sister, aunty and friend. You were loved then, you are loved now, and you will be loved for as long as we are here to say your name. I am walking Out of the Shadows for you, sweetheart, and I will carry you with me every step. I couldn’t save you, but I will keep telling your story in the hope that another person might stay, another person might reach out, and another family might never have to know how this feels. I miss you beyond words. Forever 25. Forever my daughter. Forever my Hannah. 💙 Her laugh will resound in our hearts forever. Love you always and forever, Mum xxx"

"I've decided to join this fundraiser because the last couple of months lifeline has saved me on multiple occasions. I reached the lowest point in my life and I am so incredibly grateful for Lifeline and the support I have received over the years. They are one of the reasons that I am still here today, sitting at my computer, able to type this on my keyboard. I have struggled with depression and anxiety since puberty, and it only got worse as I got older. I turned to alcohol and became an alcoholic. I am now sober, and I want to give back to those who helped me get here, because the words 'Thank you' simply do not feel like enough. It breaks my heart knowing how many others have also/are currently in the darkest of dark places that I've also personally been. My heart goes out to anybody struggling. Talking to someone does help. You are never alone. "

I hope for others like him, never to feel such deep sorrow and despair alone. Jayden

"🕊️ In memory of Jayden & the friends we’ve lost 18 kilometres for the people who should still be here. Today, I’m walking for Jayden Brown, and for the other friends I’ve lost to suicide. Every kilometre is for a memory. Every step is for a life that mattered. Every moment I keep going is a reminder that none of them will ever be forgotten. There are people we lose who leave an emptiness that words can never really explain. People who should have had more birthdays, more adventures, more stupid conversations, more laughs, and more time with the people who loved them. Jayden, you are still remembered. You are still spoken about. You are still loved. This walk is for you, and for everyone who has ever felt like they couldn't keep going. I hope we can keep reminding each other that reaching out isn't weakness, asking for help isn't a burden, and no one should ever have to face their darkest moments alone. 18 km might seem like a long way, but it is nothing compared to the distance we would all give anything to have back with the people we've lost. So today, I walk with them in my heart. For Jayden. For the friends who never got the chance to stay. For the families left behind. For everyone struggling silently. And for the hope that one day, fewer families will have to know this kind of loss. 18 km. One step at a time. For the ones we love. 🕊️❤️"

For Every Child. ❤️

"I am choosing to walk for the children who have lost their battle, for the children who felt like they couldn’t keep going, for the children who are still here, but fighting thoughts that no child should ever have to carry, for the ones that are hurting quietly, those who don't know how to ask for help or have and just aren't being heard, for the parents that have lost their precious babies, and those that are terrified that they might lose theirs. I am walking for all of them. ❤️"

"I’m walking because I know what it feels like to reach places inside yourself you never thought you would. I’m walking for the people who looked fine and weren’t. For the ones who went quiet. For the ones who asked for help and still felt alone. For the ones we lost, and the ones still here trying to find a reason to stay. I’m walking because silence costs lives. Because mental health doesn’t always look like a crisis from the outside. Because sometimes surviving the night is the bravest thing a person will ever do. And because I never want another person to believe the world would be better without them in it."

Personl Tribute

"On 10 September, I will be taking part in the Out of the Shadows Walk for Lifeline. This walk is deeply personal to me. Throughout my life, I have faced challenges that at times felt overwhelming. During those moments, the support, kindness, and understanding of others made all the difference. I know how important it is to have hope, feel connected, and know that someone cares. Sadly, many people are fighting battles that no one can see. Some feel isolated, lost, or without hope. By walking for Lifeline, I am standing in support of those who are struggling, those we have lost, and the families and friends whose lives have been forever changed by suicide. Every step I take is a reminder that every life matters, every conversation matters, and help is available. Please support my walk by making a donation today. Your contribution, no matter the size, will help Lifeline continue providing crisis support and hope to people when they need it most. If you are unable to donate, sharing this message can also help raise awareness and reach someone who may need support. Together, we can help bring people out of the shadows and into the light. Thank you for your support. ❤️ David Crawford #OutOfTheShadows #LifelineAustralia #SuicidePrevention #MentalHealthAwareness #Hope #YouAreNotAlone "

Myself, Danny and Justin

"Out of the Shadows I have lived with suicidal thoughts, on and off, since I was 15 years old. I’m 61 now. For years, it was something to hide. Something shameful. Something that felt as though it said something terrible about who I was, rather than something about how much pain I was sometimes in. That is why the name Out of the Shadows feels so right to me. Shame grows in secrecy. I no longer want suicide, suicidal thoughts, addiction or mental distress to be things we whisper about. I want us to be able to say: This happened. This is part of my story. And I am still here. I’m also walking for my friends Danny and Justin. They were people, not statistics, and I wish their stories had continued. Ultimately, I will walk for everyone who has ever found themselves in that dark place and believed they needed to hide it. Perhaps suicide prevention begins, in part, with exactly this: bringing what we are most ashamed of out of the shadows, speaking its name, and discovering that we do not have to disappear simply because part of us once wanted to."

"$39 is what it costs for life line to provide one answer for somebody who needs help or support in a desperate time. If this service was easily available 20 something years ago a good friend of mine may still be with us today. I am walking to raise money for lifeline in memory of a good mate and because I owe them three calls that may have been needed by somebody else or will be at some stage and I need to pay it back. If you can cough up $39 that would be fantastic but anything you can spare is just as welcomed. If it means being unable to fork out a couple of bucks for the juggler next time you are stopped at a set of lights don’t worry he is here having the holiday of his life and will survive without it, the block who lives around the corner and is juggling his circumstances and thoughts may not."

STEVE FARRELLY

"Last year I lost my brother Stephen. Unfortunarely we were estranged seven years so I didn't know of his dreadful circumstances until too late. In the many months before his death he became desperately unwell, isolated, depressed, had no financial support and was living with no money for food or bills. At one point, Steve wrote that he hadn't eaten for nine days and was feeling very weak. He lost an enormous amount of weight and had lost all hope. He eventually died alone. 😪 Whilst his medical cause of death is undetermined, I believe his tragic demise shows why suicide prevention, mental-health support and early intervention matter enormously. I'm walking 9 kilometres for my brother Steve and all those suffering in silence. 😔💜 My goal is to raise $400 for Lifeline so they can provide suicide prevention and crisis support. This will cover Lifeline Calls for 10 people in desperate need."

David

"15 years ago, I lost my brother, David, to suicide. 💔 Not a day goes by that I don’t think about him and wonder what might have been different if he had felt able to reach out and talk to someone. I wish he had known that he didn’t have to face his pain alone. I wish he had picked up the phone and asked for help. I wish we could have had the chance to remind him how loved and important he was. That loss has stayed with me for 15 years, and it’s the reason I’m supporting Lifeline. Lifeline is there for people in their darkest moments — when they may feel alone, overwhelmed or unable to see a way forward. Sometimes, simply having someone there to listen can make all the difference. I’m raising money in memory of my brother, in the hope that someone else who is struggling will reach out, be heard, and realise they don’t have to go through it alone. For my brother. For those still struggling. And for the hope that one conversation might save a life. ❤️🕊️ If you can donate, share, or simply take a moment to check in on someone you love, it would mean more to me than you know."

My twin sister Zaylei

"As a survivor of suicide, my twin sister Zaylei never got the recognition she deserved for how strong she really is. Not because she was a former state champion boxer but because she never let anyone tell her who she was and how she should be. She is the strongest girl i know and to have known that she tried to commit at the early age of 10 is heartbreaking. I never said this much but she inspires me to be strong too, she inspires me to be myself no matter what others think and most of all, she makes me laugh even when shes hurting. She has been through hell and back for me and i will never forgive myself for the way i treated her as children. To my twin sister Zaylei, I love you💗💗💗."

"For my Uncle Jez 🤍 This year, I will be walking Out of the Shadows with my Uncle Jez very much in mind. Jez was one of those people who filled a room. Classy, intelligent, ambitious and incredibly funny. On our big family holidays, he was the one who would appear in the morning with his guitar and a black coffee, singing to wake everyone up. He was part of a huge family where family meant everything. Brotherhood, loyalty and looking after your own ran incredibly deeply. And Jez was so, so loved. But sometimes the battles people are fighting become bigger than what the people around them can see. After battling thoughts he could no longer fend off, Jez began to withdraw from the people who loved him, and eventually we lost him. So I walk for Jez. I walk as a reminder to keep your people close. Call your brother. Call your sister. Check on the friend who has gone a little quiet. Turn up. Have the coffee. Make the effort. Tell people you love them while they're here to hear it. Because sometimes even the people surrounded by the most love can feel impossibly alone. I have always believed that something loved is never truly lost. And Jez was loved so very much. We may have lost the man, but we'll never lose the mornings, the guitar, the old school charm, the laughter, or the place he holds in our enormous family. This one's for you, Uncle Jez. 🤍"

"It would have been 21 years since I was gone. I would have missed being a teenager, going to high school, missed out on having my two beautiful children Sarah and Grace who are the lights of my life. I would’ve missed out on all the beautiful friendships I have created along the way. I would’ve missed out on the beautiful countries I have traveled to. I would’ve never fallen in love with my beautiful Lancey, I would’ve missed out on adulthood,. Nora, I am so sorry that being a child was the most scary, lonely, depressing and daunting time of your life. I wish I didn’t have all these scars that reminds me of all the ugly times. Look at you now, working and doing something you genuinely love, living life to the best of your abilities. Even though we aren’t there yet but we’re better than we were many years ago. I am proud of you Nora. Thanks for making it to your 30s. Signed: current Me. "

Hester

"Hester, my mum, took her own life in 2018 at 45 years old. I was 14 at the time and unaware of the mental health struggles she had faced throughout her life. My mum was a beam of light in so many peoples lives. She was incredibily generous with her love and time and made sure that everyone felt they were heard, seen and loved, regardless of her relationship to them. Her light will forever be grieved by not only our family and her friends but by the many people she crossed paths with in this life time. Over the last 4 years I have been passionate in making change to the way our world views mental health/illness and the stigma that surrounds it. I have walked the past 3 years to raise awareness for suicide prevention. It is not a topic we can allow to be swept under the rug, to be shushed - that only further encourages and enforces people to keep theirstruggles to themselves, to silence their needs and fight their battles alone, in silence. No one should have to experience that. I hope that we can build communities that hold each other up, encourage open discussion, growth and change. Sending love to all of you out there who have experienced the grief of suicide or experienced that pain yourselves. "

- Shenei

In memory of Dad

"My dad was affectionate, loving, easy-going and deeply connected to people. He loved his family and close friends, and during his years in the Army he formed friendships and connections that meant so much to him. He cherished contact with every person he met, and I believe that connection was at the heart of who he was. Dad carried pain from a very young age. His own father had left when he was young, and for many years that absence was something he lived with. Eventually, Dad found his father and they were able to reconnect. His father accepted him with love, and I know how much that reunion meant to Dad. Tragically, after Dad took his own life, his father was devastated when he learned what had happened and, unable to bear the loss of his son, he too took his own life. The depth of pain and loss within our family is something I have carried with me for the past 30 years. I wish he had never had to carry that pain alone. His story reminds me how deeply people need connection, belonging and to feel seen — not only by the people closest to us, but sometimes by a stranger, a friend, a colleague, or simply someone willing to stop and listen. When someone dies by suicide, the pain does not end. It leaves an everlasting wound for the people who love them, and so many questions that can never be answered. I will always wish Dad could have known how loved he was and that he didn't have to face his pain by himself. I share Dad's story in the hope that we can look out for one another a little more. Be kind to the person beside you. Check in. Listen without judgement. Reach out, even when you don't know exactly what to say. Sometimes the smallest act of connection can mean more than we will ever know. No one should have to face pain, loss or rejection alone. Dad, I will carry your love, your warmth and your love of people with me always. I hope your story can help create a future where we are closer, more compassionate and more willing to reach for one another in our darkest moments. For Dad — always loved, always remembered, and forever a part of me. "

Kye Azimi

"**In memory of Kye** I first knew Kye as a boy at primary school, polite beyond his years, smart, and full of a warmth that was impossible to miss. He'd spent part of his childhood in Japan, and you could see it in him: a quiet respect for the people around him, a way of carrying himself that felt rare in someone so young. What I remember most is how alive he was. Kye loved life, genuinely, visibly. He was smiling all the time, the kind of smile that made you feel like things were good, even on ordinary days. Our girls used to pull jokes on him, and he was always happy to be part of their little pack, never minding being the target, just glad to belong. Even now, three years later, when I look back at photos of him, a smile still comes to my face before anything else does. Three years ago, when I heard the news, I couldn't believe it. Someone so bright, so full of promise, it didn't make sense. It still doesn't, in a way. Kye had it in him to be someone who shaped the people around him, who left a mark on the world. He already had, in the small ways only those who knew him could see. This walk is for that boy, polite, smart, endlessly smiling, always happy to belong. For the impact he already had, and the impact he never got the chance to have. Kye, you are remembered. You mattered, and you still do. 💛 "

Jordan was a bright, unforgettable presence who brought an overwhelming amount of love into my life and into the lives of so many others. In 2021, Jordan lost his painful, courageously fought battle with mental health as he navigated a new chapter of his life and his identity within the LGBTQIA+ community. Not a single day goes by where I don't remember him, miss him, and carry his memory with me. I’m participating in this walk for Lifeline for World Suicide Prevention Day to honour Jordan’s beautiful legacy and keep his light shining. Tess pearce

"In memory of my beautiful daughter, Tessie. Tessie was one of those rare people who made the world gentler simply by being in it. Despite the challenges she faced living with cerebral palsy, she lived with extraordinary determination, compassion and joy. She was studying Social Welfare because she wanted to help others, and she had an incredible ability to listen without judgement, see the good in people and make them feel valued. Tessie loved music, loved to dance and had a wicked sense of humour. She also had enormous courage. After six months of training, she left her electric wheelchair to complete a 6km walk in a walking frame, raising more than $15,000 for Lifeline. But her greatest gift wasn’t what she achieved. It was who she was. She taught me more about kindness, acceptance and unconditional love than anyone ever could. I miss my beautiful girl beyond words. Through this fundraiser, I hope a little of the love and goodness Tessie brought into this world can continue. For you, Tessie. My daughter, my greatest love, and forever a part of me. 💜"

"I hope you know that you’re not alone, even on the darkest days. We all have moments where things feel overwhelming and scary, especially when we feel like we have to face everything by ourselves. But please remember that there is always hope, and things really can get better. You don’t have to have everything figured out right now. Take your time, breathe, and process things in whatever way you need to. Just keep going, one day at a time 🤍"

In Honour of My Friend Bentley & All Those Workers Who Risk Their Lives

"This 63 km run is dedicated to a dear friend I lost to suicide, and to all the brave workers who put their lives at risk every day to provide for their families and contribute to the lives we have today. He worked as an offshore diver on oil platforms. He was one of those people who had to put on that heavy equipment, enter dangerous environments and go deep underwater, knowing the risks involved in the work he did. This run is a tribute to him, and to every worker who faces danger as part of their job — divers, offshore workers, miners, emergency workers, and so many others whose courage and sacrifices often go unseen. For my friend, and for everyone who puts their safety on the line so that others can live, work and build their lives. You are remembered. You are valued. And your life matters."

- Amanda Nonato

"17 years and 1 day ago I lost two beautiful souls. My Mum and Sister within a 24 time period. Yes my Mum and then my Sister heard the news and already wasn’t too far off feeling that way herself. The news tipped her over to the point of no return. Both were very brave, thoughtful, kind and caring. It’s taken its toll on me in many ways and teared the family even further apart. So my heart goes out to every survivor of a loved one to suicide. Forever remembered and infinite angels 🕊️"

Lloyd (Dad)

"26 years ago my life was turned upside down when my mum told me dad had died by suicide. I was 18, it was the year 2000. My family didn't show emotions, therapy was used as a threat, suicide was anxiety word. I had no support. It changed me forever. I was mad at my dad, and guilty because I was the one who spoke to him last. As an adult I now empathise with what he must have been going though. My partner has been close to suicide before, he has taught me his side, and he says I have shown him that loved ones are not better off without you. I know my dad called Lifeline a few times during his struggles and I am forever grateful for those extra days, weeks or months that we were given together because of Lifeline. The least I can do is fundraise so that someone else receives the same benefit. "

- Clare

Anyone struggling

"Today, I am walking 10 kilometers to honor those we have lost to suicide, and to stand with everyone who is still fighting in the dark. This walk is deeply personal for me. Not long ago, I was in a very dark place myself. I know the weight, the isolation, and the pain of feeling like there is no way out. But I made it through, and today I am walking to prove that there is hope on the other side.I am walking so that those who are struggling right now know they are not alone. I am walking to break the silence, to erase the stigma, and to make sure that nobody else has to go through that darkness without a hand to hold.To those we have lost: you are remembered. To those still fighting: please stay. Your story isn't over yet."

Winter

"In may 2026, I tried to take my life. it didn't work, and i ended up in hospital. When i made that decision, i immediately told one of my friends, and she convinced me to call an ambulance. Her name is winter. I had only met her one month before but we were friends, and i knew she understood. she made sure i called the ambulance, get the help i needed and made sure i was alright. What i did wouldnt of taken my life had winter helped or not, but i surely wouldve felt like i had died. Without winter, i would be here today. I would've tried to end myself again, and again, and again until it worked. but i didn't. Because of winter. i am eternally grateful for her. "

Randal simon

"My walk is on behalf of my husband whom has been recently going through his own dark days. It has been scary not knowing if he's himself today or if it's his thoughts. Being there for someone who's not there is draining because there would be days where I would go into my thoughts, then I would remember I'm not the one I should be worrying about it's my husband. He's been lost lately and we're trying to find him again. Everyone else that is going through their own just know you are STRONG, BRAVE and no one will know what's wrong until you tell them. Don't feel wrong when your not in control or when you think nobody will be there for you, there are 28million other ears out in Aus to hear and understand your pain and struggles. Never feel alone."

Uncle Nigel

"We lost my Uncle Nigel to suicide when I was just a child. I have foggy but lovely memories of him. The pain that it caused our family is something I couldn't explain. I wish he was still here, to see the children that have been born. To laugh with us when we all get together. To remince To have lived a life & shared his pain. We would have held some of it for him. I've included an image which has an excerpt from a book I read, 'How to see yourself as you really are', by the Dalai Lama. It helped me immensely when I personally went through a very dark time. It may help you too 🩵 "

"I've experienced depression & anxiety for as long as I can remember. I try to be strong, but somedays I can barely function. I can feel so lonely - but, I know others are out there going through the same & worse. Even if we don't know each other, we may never meet... but I'm thinking of you & sending you strength & love. I try to remember: ☆ I may feel lonely but I'm never alone in what I'm experiencing. ☆ It's not that I don't want to live, it's that I don't want to live this way. Meditation has helped me in ways I could never explain. I highly recommend even basic breathing or body scan mindful Meditation. Take care, the world needs you. I need you. You need you. This life were living, it's maddening & beautiful all at once. And you deserve all the beauty, joy & love it has to offer. "

Elina 🖤

"We are dedicating this walk to our beloved friend Elina, who we lost to suicide just a couple of weeks ago 💔 What makes this years World Suicide Prevention day feel even more personal, is that Elina’s funeral will be held the day after. As we are literally on the opposite side of the world and cannot attend the funeral, we will be walking in the name of Elina - to raise funds so that nobody else will leave this earth the way she did. So that we never have to receive these news about one of our loved ones ever again. Too many have gone, way too young. We are heartbroken and still mourning her death, but want to try to turn this sorrow into action. We want to break the stigma surrounding suicide, and open the discussion about mental health. We ourselves are no stranger to these dark thoughts. So let’s talk about it. Elina was a beautiful, talented, strong individual with a very unique world view - hence the goal donation amount chosen. As she would say, Love is the law, love under will 🖤"

Myself, friends and family lost to suicide

"I’m dedicating this walk to myself, and to the friends and family I’ve lost to suicide. ❤️ I’ve been in some really dark places. I’ve stood on the edge more than once, and there have been times I honestly didn’t know if I’d make it to the other side. But I did. I’m still here. And I know how hard it can be to find the strength to take that next step when everything inside you is telling you to give up. So that’s what this walk means to me — one foot in front of the other. One more step. Then another. Just keep going. If you’re struggling, please stay. Please reach out. Please keep going. You never know what’s waiting for you on the other side. 🖤"

Kenny Iles (Dad and Pop)

"I am not religious, but as I sorted out my fathers possessions, after he passed away, I love this piece I came across highlighted in a Bible on his coffee table, which I hope gives others comfort too. "2 Corinthians 4:17–18: For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! 18 So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever. These dark thoughts you might have are only a short moment in time, please make that phone call or text for help, tomorrow is a new day full of opportunities and hope! Even use a code word, like we have made up in our friendship group, text "wanker coffee" aka, I need a pick me up, please reach out. My Grandfather and his son, my Dad, passed away 5 months apart in the exact same location, using the same mechanism to pass away. If only they had reached out and texted or called and got the help they needed."

Liv💗

"Liv was one of my best friends, and there aren’t enough words in the world to say how much I miss her. She was the most beautiful, kind, thoughtful, funny and loveable person I have ever met. She had a way of making everyone around her feel loved and safe, and I feel so lucky that I got to call her my best friend. She changed my life for the better, and it’s so hard to picture my life without her in it. She left us far too soon, and if only we had more time to live through all the plans we made, all the places we wanted to go and all the memories we still had ahead of us. I would give anything to hug her, hear her laugh and tell her I love her just one more time. I wish I could have one more conversation, one more laugh, one more ordinary day with her. I hope she knew just how deeply she is loved and how much she means to all of us. I will always remember your laugh, your beautiful smile and the way you lit up a room the second you walked in. I will carry every memory of you with me for the rest of my life. You may not be here for all the moments we imagined, but you will always be a part of them. You will forever be with me, my angel. Love you."

"It's been 38 years since you departed Dad.. You left this world to escape your pain - I couldn't understand why at the time - I was shattered & hurting so bad..pain became my whole world.. A lot has happened since then & I do mean a lot - but I'm pretty certain you know that - & in that time, the pain became the gain. It hasn't been an easy path..but I don't think it's meant to be lol? I was on a razors edge, staring into the abyss. I could clearly see that if I was to slip in, there'd was no comomg back - the Dark (K)Night had come for my soul - & that was the night, my life changed forever. Thank-you Dad..I know you helped me to save myself❣️. Life has never been the same since. I am eternally grateful & feel extremely fortunate - I am truly blessed☺️. Love you always Dad - looking forward to seeing you on the other side of the veil, come the time😉💚💜❤️..thanks for everything - until then xoxo"

"Suicide can impact anyone, regardless of how strong or resilient they may appear on the outside. I always saw my dad as a tough, thick-skinned man who could handle anything. I never imagined that he could be struggling so deeply. His passing has impacted more people than he ever could have imagined. I wish that he could have known how loved, admired and valued he was and how many people cared about him. If there is one thing I hope people take from Dad’s story, it’s thatSuicide can impact anyone, regardless of how strong or resilient they may appear on the outside. I always saw my dad as a tough, thick-skinned man — someone who could handle anything life threw at him. I never imagined that, beneath that strength, he could be struggling so deeply. His passing has impacted more people than he ever could have imagined. I wish more than anything that he could have known how deeply loved, admired and valued he was, and how many people cared about him. Check on the ones you love and have those difficult conversations. " I have chose to walk in memory of the many beautiful souls we have lost to suicide, and in support of those who continue to fight their battles every day. Mental health has touched my life in more ways than I can count. Like so many others, I have experienced my own struggles and have watched people I love face theirs. I know how heavy life can feel at times, and how important connection, support, and hope truly are. To those we have lost, you are loved, missed, and remembered. Your lives mattered, and your memories live on in the hearts of those who knew you. This walk is for you. It is for those who are grieving, for those who are struggling in silence, and for those who need to know that they are not alone. Together, we can continue the conversation, break the stigma, and remind one another that help, hope, and brighter days are possible. Forever remembered. Forever loved."

Milly

"In memory of my beautiful best friend Milly. There are so many things I wish I could tell you, and so many moments I wish you were still here to experience with us. You were so much more than what you were going through. You were a best friend, a daughter, a teammate and someone who was deeply loved by so many people. Behind everything you achieved and the person everyone saw on the outside, you were carrying an enormous amount of pressure. Between family circumstances, the expectations and stress that came with sport, and being away at boarding school, you were struggling without feeling like you had someone you could truly talk to. I wish more than anything that you had known how many people would have listened. I wish you could have seen yourself through the eyes of everyone who loved you and known that you never had to carry everything by yourself. Losing you has changed my life forever. I will always carry our memories, our friendship and the person you were with me. I will keep talking about you, saying your name and remembering you for your kindness, your strength, your laugh and all of the little things that made you you. I’m walking Out of the Shadows in your memory, but also in the hope that another young person who feels alone will realise that there is someone who wants to hear them. No achievement, expectation, family situation, sporting result or pressure is more important than a person’s life and wellbeing. You should still be here. You are loved beyond words, missed every single day, and you will never be forgotten. "

"I cannot tell you how many times this service has saved me from myself, I live with extreme gratitude and hope that as time passes I need it less 🤍 All too often it’s said that suicide is the easy way out. It’s common to hear the word ‘coward’ roll of the tounges of people who haven’t lived it, or don’t understand it. On my darkest of days I’ve been told that I’m selfish, inconsiderate, that I’m a bad person who’s hurting those who I love. I am none of these things… these words are far from helpful, they do not empower the suffering nor do they make you ‘snap out of it’. They simply add to the stigma and self loathing, further impacting a persons ability to speak up. I will forever be a safe space for anyone needing somewhere to purge, to throw all that hurt or to simply hold space and sit with them silently sharing their darkness. 🤍"

Anthony John Cain

"I’m walking with a heavy heart, but with hope. 💛 I lost my brother Anthony John Cain to suicide in 2007, across the road from the Brothers Leagues Club Ipswich on Wildey Street. The following year, 2008, my life was turned upside down. I was told I needed brain surgery that could leave me either dead or in a vegetative state, but I survived. Then I endured the worst pain any parent could imagine: I lost two children to SIDS and Myocarditis this completely destroyed me as a parent, no child should pass before their parent 😥 These losses have left me with ABI, IED, SEIZURES and also Complex PTSD with other multiple mental health issues. On top of that, I’ve recently had spinal surgery which makes every step of this walk even harder. Some days can be very challenging 🥴 but we push through. I'm now a full time single parent to my 9-year-old son and we will be walking 27km for Lifeline’s Out of the Shadows Walk, to raise $1,170 enough to answer 30 crisis calls. We are doing this so other families hopefully don’t have to go through what mine have, and be left to pick up the pieces and the amount of hurt and pain. If you can spare even $5 or $10, or share this post it all helps to help those in their darkest times Thank you, and God bless."

"I have been close to ending my life many many times. But seeing so many of the people in my life around me doing the same and see how it affected their friends and family which affected my friends and family which affected me. I couldn’t be responsible for something like that. It would kill my mum. It’s not fair to break someone else’s life that is whole and happy."

"There are no words big enough to describe what it feels like to lose my son. You were only 15, my beautiful boy, and I still struggle to believe that I have to live in a world without you in it. If I could have one more moment with you, I wouldn't need to say anything. I would just hold you. I would hold you so tightly and never let go. I would tell you how incredibly loved you are, how proud i am to be your mum, and how much you mean to me. I wish you could have seen yourself through my eyes. You were so much more than the pain you were carrying. You were my son You were precious. You were loved beyond measure. Your life had meaning, and your place in our family will never be filled by anyone else i would give anything to turn back time and have one more day with you I will say vour name. I will tell your story, I will remember your smile. I will carry your love with me every single day Forever my son Forever 15. Forever in my heart Until I hold you again. Love always, MUM xx"

"For my stepdad and my stepbrother 🤍 Two incredible people I loved deeply, and two losses that changed my life forever. There will never be enough words to explain how much you both meant to me or the hole you left behind. I miss you both in ways words can’t express, and life has never been the same without you. I wish you could have known just how loved you were, and how many people still carry you in their hearts. On 10 September, I’ll walk those 9km for you both — carrying your memories with me and hoping that by sharing your stories, we can help someone else stay. Forever loved. Forever missed. Never forgotten. 🤍"

"Alfie, for these 9 kilometres, I honour you not simply for the distance you walk, but for what choosing to walk represents. You’re showing up for people whose struggles may never be visible from the outside, for families who carry names and memories with them every day, and for those who are still here fighting battles quietly. May every kilometre stand for compassion over judgement, conversation over silence, and the reminder that a human life can change direction when someone cares enough to notice. And I honour you for being willing to be one of those people. Walk proudly, brother. Not ahead of anyone, not above anyone — alongside them. 🤜🤛🌿🪶"

"I’ll just mention Myself . I have a long history of complex mental health with some serious extremes with suicidal thoughts and actions . I know to many close souls that have dealt with the ripple effects of suicide and the heavy stone that casts waves of bad news hits .. Everyone who’s donated probably doesn’t know I cry for a moment because I know they’ve dealt with the waves of this realm .. probably a little too well .. .. I’m forever grateful.. .. my legs will say other wise but the face will be happy tears 😂.. seriously though thank you life line for having a call line .. people should wanna feel wanted and supported "

Charlie Makhlouf

"In Memory of Charlie Charlie was the life of the party. He had this incredible ability to light up any room he walked into. He was the fun guy, the guy who somehow became everyone’s friend. His laugh was completely contagious, when Charlie laughed, you couldn’t help but laugh with him. But behind all that fun was something even more beautiful. Charlie was an amazing dad. He loved his children with everything he had. He loved his family fiercely, and he loved his country just as deeply. He was always reminding our kids how lucky they were and teaching them to appreciate what they had. And he loved me in a way I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Charlie knew how to make my heart do somersaults in my chest. He loved unconditionally. He had the kindest heart, and he would have given you the shirt off his back if you needed it. Charlie had so many wonderful qualities, so many values, so much love, so much life in him. But he was also fighting a battle that so many people never saw. He was fighting demons in his mind that ultimately became too loud, too painful and too overwhelming. And those demons took him away from us far too soon. His death has robbed our family of a lifetime of moments we were meant to share with him, the birthdays, graduations, weddings, grandchildren, celebrations and all those ordinary little moments that make up a life. Our lives have been turned completely upside down. I lost my husband. My children lost their dad. Our family lost a part of itself. And there are days when the grief feels unbearable. I died inside with Charlie the day he took his own life. Grief hurts. His absence hurts. And learning how to live in a world without Charlie hurts in ways I never knew were possible. But in September 13, I choose to walk for him. I walk because I want Charlie’s story to reach someone who is struggling in silence. I want it to reach the dad who thinks his family would be better off without him. The husband who believes he is a burden. The person who is smiling on the outside while fighting an unimaginable battle on the inside. Please hear me. Your family does not need a perfect version of you. They need you. Please tell someone. Please ask for help. Please stay. Because life is not better without you. I would give anything to have one more moment with Charlie, to hold him, to comfort him, to quiet those demons in his head and tell him what I wish I could have told him loudly enough for him to believe: “Charlie, your life was worth fighting for. You were loved more than you knew. Life was not better without you. Please, please stay.” I cannot bring Charlie back. But I can carry his story forward. And if sharing his story reaches even one person before they make that irreversible decision, if it helps one dad put down the pain for just one more day, reach out, make the call, tell someone they aren't okay, and choose to stay, then Charlie's life can continue to make a difference. That is what I want his legacy to be. Not just that we lost him. But that his story helped someone stay. So on September 13, we walk for Charlie. We walk for the dads who are struggling. We walk for the families who are grieving. We walk for everyone fighting battles that others cannot see. And we walk with one message in our hearts: You are loved. You are needed. You are not a burden. There is help. Please stay."

"I’m walking in memory of my big sister, Grace (17/05/2001 - 24/08/2014). She fought her battle bravely but lost her life at just 13 years old. The world has never been the same without her. She was only two years older than me and was both my closest friend and my biggest rival. As sisters, we would get along one minute and fight the next, but not a day goes by that I don't wish I could turn back time and relive those moments. Grace always knew how to make people laugh and was known for being fiercely competitive, which makes sense given she had five siblings. She always tried to lend a hand to others, even when she was going through her own struggles. Not a day passes that I don't miss her deeply. Grace, we will forever love you and hold you in our hearts 💕💕"

Julie

"1997 Therapist #1 - There was detail I intentionally hid, a time only a year earlier when I ran, quitting my job, rental and boyfriend to go backpacking in South America. At the midpoint of my travels I was in Peru, four days on the Inca Trail, over Dead Woman’s Pass at 4,200-metres, each breath a battle, but I’d made it: Machu Picchu. Then, my ultimate challenge, a steep 2,700-metre ascent of stairs and boulders. Arriving at the exposed peak I looked over the lost city. The views, breathtaking. I had conquered. At the summit, I stood poised. Ready. Five years on from launching myself out the window at gunpoint, all I could think of was doing the same. I was overwhelmed by the urge to leave my chasmic pain behind, ending it all. And so, I buried my suicidal thoughts, as though they’d never existed, fearing judgment, being put on record, or worse, being locked up for my own safety. 2024 - All this time no one knew, I was either lucky or unlucky to still be alive. The thoughts would creep back in, testing my will, isolation was the harshest. Logically, I knew I wasn’t alone and I was loved, but it still festered. It took a lifetime to learn to express myself when that parasite fed, acknowledging those feelings would eventually pass. I knew I had to talk about it, openly. Years on, in a still moment, I was able to acknowledge how fiercely powerful I had been to resist all those times, and on that mountain top in South America. Somehow, I had now recognised there was an unknown beyond my suffering. Something. That girl wasn’t crazy, possessed, or broken. She was never selfish. She was traumatised, craving a lifeline from her bone deep torture. My impulses at the edge of despair, they were the remnants of my past. The greatest news of all, I no longer have intrusive thoughts of suicide. I now recognise they were never truly mine, they were a savage inheritance of my abusive past. Now I can be there for others, offering my support and an understanding of their pain. Remaining present for others, at last I am present for myself, honouring my soul. My greatest learning has been that fearlessness can be found in vulnerability, and in that space, healing begins."

- Jules

Evey Vincent

"Evey was an incredibly bright star who dedicated herself to helping others. One of life’s true empaths, she persevered to overcome her own fragility, and to understand how to navigate the vagaries and challenges of the world, always trying, in her own way, to “put things back together”. Striving to avoid harm, Evey had an incredible capacity to forgive. With hindsight, perhaps one would have nudged her a little more to forgive herself. Evey worked as a social worker for Headspace in the area of youth suicide and was also volunteering for Lifeline at the time of her passing. Knowing the risks, understanding the issues and being aware of the support services available did not mean that she was somehow protected from what she was experiencing. Things are not always what they seem. From the outside, we can make assumptions about someone’s circumstances, their relationships, their support networks, or how they are coping. We may not know the truth of what lays underneath. Hindsight cannot change the past, but it can remind us to look more carefully at what we think we know, to listen without judgment, and to remember that someone’s experience may be different to what we see. Lifeline can listen, and it can make a difference. Evey’s message: “remember the power of words and not to ridicule”"

"Mum, it’s been 36 years since you left us, but not a day goes by that you aren’t a part of my story. There are so many things I wish I could tell you. About the woman I’ve become, the family I’ve built, and the two beautiful children who will never get to know their grandmother the way I wish they could.. "

Dear friends

"I am walking for those who are going through a temporary season of darkness and may feel, “Nobody cares about me.” ❤️ Instead of focusing on what we have lost or what we don’t have, let’s try to notice the positive things and the people who are still around us. Whatever you may be facing today, please believe me—it is temporary. It will pass. There is still hope, even when you cannot see it yet. 🌅 And guess what? We may have never met in person, but I care about you. You matter. Your life matters. Please keep going. ❤️ This walk is for you. 🥾❤️ Kefie"

I Hope & Pray that I won't experience it & happen again as it is not the nicest feeling at all but We all go through darkness but at the end of the day we should not give up & always have a positive mindset of that at the end of the Tunnel there is always a light & on every problems there is a solution or options & support that you can count on to. For the lives that should have had more time, for the people carrying battles no one can see, and for the reminder that even in the darkest moments, there is always someone willing to listen. On the 10th of September Jack, Lilly and I will be walking "4uAds" (our team's name) to raise funds and awareness around suicide. This seems very fitting for my birthday, I love hiking and trails and so did Adam, so it just seems right that I honour him. "

Lyv & Carm

"Walking in honour of my daughter’s best friend as well as my own struggles. For me there was a time when simply being alive felt exhausting. I smiled when I was supposed to smile. I showed up. I laughed. I carried on with life while inside, I was fighting a battle that very few people could see. Depression convinced me that the darkness would never end. There were days when the pain became so heavy that I had suicidal thoughts—moments when I genuinely questioned whether I had the strength to keep going. And that is difficult for me to admit. Not because I am ashamed, but because people often don’t realise how close someone can be to breaking while still looking completely okay on the outside. I’m not ashamed of the person I was in those darkest moments. I’m proud of her. Because when she couldn’t see a future, she somehow held on long enough to reach one. This is not a tribute to depression. It is a tribute to surviving it. To every version of me that wanted to give up but stayed. And to the life I almost didn’t get to keep living. I’m still here. And today, those three words mean everything."

Too many

"I'm doing this because their are far to many people choosing suicide because there isn't enough proper resources out there to help them when they really need it! I've lost too many friends to suicide and if they got the help when they asked for it they would still be here but no instead they got put on medication that didnt help and told to go home!!! (What a joke) so we really do need better resources with more experienced staff and extra staff to help the people when they need it! Don't wait till it's too late "

Matthew Conna Moras

"No Parent should have to bury there child... There are different types of pain.... Physical, mental, heart ache, ect. When you lose a child you feel all the above put together all at once, There is NO pain relief, it doesn't go away, and you never really find peace. I wish I had seen the signs, I should have seen the signs, but I didn't. It's my son's face I see when I close my eyes at night, he's my first thought when I wake up. I feel like I failed him as his mother, and I have to live with that every single day. Matthew was loved by so many people, he has 8 siblings and many friends, he was the life of the party, I always said he was an old soul. Matthew had depression, last year on the 8th of April Matty turnt 23, I bought him a phone for his birthday, he seemed fine, a little stressed but fine, then on the 17th just 9 days later, I was woken up with the call every parent dreads. It hasn't been easy and every day is a struggle, I would do anything to have my son back . I miss him more and more as each day passes and I wish he knew just how loved he was. The day we buried our child, a large piece of me was buried with him. Matty we love you and your forever in our hearts. I have found peace, peace in knowing that one day we will be together again. 4 Eva n always. Mum. ❤️"

Elena Katharina Frizenschaf

"Dearest Elena, I ran into your mum and dad the other day. They seem to be doing okay. They were off to see a German film at the cinema down the road from my pilates studio. I ran outside and called out to them. It was nice to see their faces again. I gave them my recommendation for a nice restaurant nearby to get dinner at before their movie. I’m going to go up to your old house and have coffee with them soon. I hope you are feeling peaceful now, wherever you are. I still think of you often and whenever I’m by the ocean or see a video of a humpback whale it reminds me of you. There’s a little calf up off the Sunny Coast that was named after you. One day I hope to visit and go diving with her. I’m getting married soon. I ended up meeting a boy in Canada while I was there. He’s really sweet and I think you would have liked him. We went on a cruise through the inside passage of Alaska - you would have loved it! There were humpback whales everywhere. I stood on the deck and talked to you and cried a little bit. Rest easy, we all miss you. "

"Today I’m walking in memory of those we have lost and in support of everyone who is struggling with their mental health. Mental health is something I have personally experienced, so this cause means a lot to me. I’m walking 9km to represent the 9 Australians lost each day and to remind people that they are never alone. May we remember those who are no longer with us, support those who are still here and continue to create a world where everyone feels heard, valued and supported"

Belinda Konopka

"World Suicide Prevention Day is coming 💛 In 2011, I lost my sister to suicide. She was kind, intelligent, loved, and someone whose absence has shaped so much of the person I am today. Since losing her, a huge part of my life has been driven by one hope: that somehow, in whatever way I can, I can help prevent another person from reaching a place where they believe there is no other way forward. For a long time, I thought I understood what that darkness looked like from the outside. Then in 2025, I found myself facing some of my own darkest moments. I learnt what it feels like to be the person who is always there for everyone else, only to suddenly feel like you have no one there for you. I learnt how isolating life can become when you’re struggling behind closed doors. And I learnt just how much a conversation, an act of kindness, a person checking in, or simply knowing someone genuinely cares can matter. But here I am. Still here. Still going. And incredibly grateful that I am. 💛 So this World Suicide Prevention Day, I want to turn both my sister’s story and my own into something meaningful. I’m raising money to support suicide prevention and the people who may currently be fighting battles the rest of us cannot see. I want to put back into the world the kindness, selflessness, compassion and strength that we all need from one another sometimes. If you’re able to donate, no matter how small the amount, I would be incredibly grateful. And if donating isn’t possible, sharing this fundraiser or simply checking in on someone you love means more than you might realise. This is for my sister. For the version of me who almost lost hope. And for every person who needs a reason to stay. 💛 Please donate or share if you can. Together, maybe we can help someone feel a little less alone."

"Every year over 65,000 Australians attempt to take their own life and over 3,000 Australians die by suicide. Lifeline receives over 1 million contacts from people in crisis each year. Suicide has devastating and life changing impacts on friends and loved ones. For World Suicide Prevention Day (Sept 10), I will be taking part in Out of the Shadows and walking for Luka, Skye, and the 9 people lost to suicide every day. I'm walking to raise funds for Lifeline to provide suicide prevention services and support for Australians in need. If you’re able to, please support my walk and sponsor me to help those in crisis. Together, we can ensure that no one has to face their darkest moments alone."

For those we’ve lost, and those still fighting

"At Bentham Legal, we walk in memory of those whose lives have been lost to suicide, and in support of every person who may be facing their darkest moments. Behind every struggle is a person, a family, a friend and a story that matters. May we continue to create workplaces and communities where people feel safe to speak, supported to seek help, and reminded that they do not have to face difficult times alone. We walk with compassion, remembrance and hope."

All veterans past and present

"Your are commended for all you have done, your sacrifices aren’t in vein, and your brother/sisterhood in arms are always with you. It’s ok not to be ok;"

Leandro curro

"On the 8th of August, my world changed forever when I tragically lost my beautiful father. My dad was a veteran — a strong, brave man who served his country, but like so many veterans, he carried battles long after his service had ended. PTSD is something that can be invisible to everyone around you, yet absolutely devastating to the person living with it. Behind these photos was a father, a veteran, a man who was loved deeply, and someone whose life meant so much more than the struggles he carried. I’m sharing his story because mental health, particularly among our veterans, needs to be spoken about. There should never be shame in struggling, asking for help, or admitting that you’re not okay. We need to keep checking on the people we love, even the ones who seem strong. Dad, I wish you could have seen yourself through my eyes and known just how loved and important you were. I will forever be proud to be your daughter, and I will carry you with me for the rest of my life. Rest peacefully, Dad. Your battle is over, but your story and your memory will never be forgotten. 🤍 8 August 2026 🕊️"

"hello my sister, it has been a hard couple of years, and this year has been even harder. you are amazing I have watched you fight on and some times even struggle but I want you to know I see you and love you . life would NOT be better without you. This is my contribution to help anyone fighting the good fight. You are enough and amazing. we would rather you call at 3am for us to remind you, you are amazing, then speak at your funeral and say how amazing you were! please hold on and take 1 day at a time. "

You made a huge impact on many people including me. You were bubbly and kind and gave so much to others. It broke my heart when we lost you. You left behind your beautiful children. I am sorry that you didn't feel able to talk about what was going on inside. Absolutely no one knew that you were in a dark place. I wish you felt safe enough to pick up the phone and call Lifeline. I know you are now at peace but you are never forgotten. "

"I miss my friend World Suicide Prevention Day is on September 10th. This is a topic that is close to my heart, which is why I’m participating in Lifeline’s Out of the Shadows walk this year. The rose and the "XO" tattoo on my wrist are my daily reminders of resilience and the people I love. I'm walking to remember my friend Jack, and to support everyone navigating their own mental health journey. As a survivor of suicide attempts myself, I want to use my lived experience to break the stigma and show that there is support available. I’m a big believer that it ain’t weak to speak. I'll be walking 63 km to honour the average of 63 Australians lost to suicide every single week."

Joshua aka big brother

"My beautiful big brother, Words will never be enough to describe what losing you has done to me. When you left this world, a part of my world left with you. Everything felt emptier, quieter, and somehow less like home. I fought so hard to save you. I held onto every bit of hope I had, while somehow, you were already preparing your goodbyes. I didn’t want to believe that your last message was really goodbye. I couldn’t. But now I hold onto those words with everything I have. I carry them with me, and when I don’t know how to keep going, I find courage in them. I find you. You had the biggest heart and a presence that could never be forgotten. You were the one person who truly knew me. You saw all of me, understood me, and somehow managed to handle my larger-than-life personality and my never-ending talking. You didn’t just love me—you knew me. You were my world. You still are. You are my everything, and you always will be. Now, when I look at the sky, I see you. I see you in places, moments, memories and little signs that make me stop in my tracks. You are everywhere. And wherever this life takes me, I will carry a part of you with me. Losing you felt like losing a part of myself, because you were what home meant to me. You were an incredible man. An incredible son, father and brother. You were loved more deeply than words could ever explain, and when we lost you, life as we knew it broke. I was told not to talk about it. Not to say anything. Not to make a fuss about your death. But staying silent darn near destroyed me. So instead, I’m going to do what you taught me to do. I’m going to use my voice. You taught me that my voice matters. That what I feel matters. That what I have to say deserves to be heard. Some people might call it cliché. Some might think I’m showing off or making a fuss. I don’t see it that way. I see you. I see my big brother. I see a life that mattered. I see someone worth remembering, worth talking about and worth loving out loud. And every step I take from here, I take with you beside me. For you, and for every person who fought the good fight but couldn’t stay. I will speak your name. I will tell your stories. I will carry your love with me for as long as I am here. Because death may have taken you from where I can see you, but it could never take you from my heart. You were my home then. You are my home still. Always and forever loving you,"

- JP

Terence Rosich

"Forever in Our Hearts Dad, there will never be enough words to explain how much you mean to me or how deeply your loss has changed our lives. I miss your voice, your laugh, your advice, and all the little things I once took for granted. I wish you could see everything that has happened since you left and know just how loved and missed you still are. You will always be a part of me, and I will carry your memory with me through every chapter of my life. I hope I can make you proud and live a life that would make you smile. Nearly one year without you, and there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think of you. I love you, Dad. Forever and always. ❤️"

bray and jordy

"to those of you who know, and to those who don’t. on the night of the 4th of march 2026 my family got the call my brother jordy had attempted suicide. fast forward to early hours the morning of the 5th of march my brothers time of death was called and it was confirmed that he had lost his battle to mental health. our family struggled every second of every day after this event. part of all of our lives went with my brother jordy. brayden my last eldest brother struggled tremendously after losing his only brother, his bestfriend and his rock. brayden struggled with mental health his whole life but even more since losing jordy. on the 6th of july i got the second phone call, my brother was found after an overdose. which led to him also losing his battle to mental health on the 7th of july. losing both my brothers in a short amount of time has affected me in ways i never knew were possible. it has changed my whole families life and has opened our eyes to the impact mental health has on people and about the stigma of men who struggle. on september 10th myself and my family will be raising money and walking 9km for mental health, every donation will help people battling mental health recieve the help they deserve and need. i ask that if you can donate than please or if you’re free on september 10th that you walk with us. Just $39 will enable Lifeline to answer a call to connect and bring hope to 1 person in crisis. say the boys name and remember them for who they were"

Di Davidson & Link Dumesny

"My beautiful friend Di spent the last few days of her life not as herself, her mind took over and took her from us. If there was a way to turn back time I would have raced to her side and tried my hardest to stop her. I’m not sure anyone can understand suicide you just have to focus on who they were and the ones left behind to keep her Memory alive. She was a ray of sunshine. We also lost Link our Nephew who was funny, dry , and one of the most clever humans I knew. The tinkerer. No one could ever imagine him taking his life as he loved his family so much and had plans (he always had plans!) I still can’t come to terms that he isn’t here. I miss his cheeky smirk. "

Dwayne Seers

"Dwayne, my gentle giant protector. Friends since childhood. Dwayne passed away on 23 July and his funeral is tomorrow. I cant remember how old I was when we first hung out, but we were fast friends and he was like my big brother. And when I say big, he was big, , , tall, but gentle. Our friendship endured decades, we would spend hours and hours trolling the streets, having sleepovers, catching trains to the city and just getting up to all kind of mischief. Once when our house was robbed, he went and found out who did it and went and got back our goods. And although I haven't seen him for around 20 years physically, I know we would still hug, he would still call me sis and he would still call my mum Mumsy. I can hear his high pitched giggle and see clearly the way he would throw his head back and to the side as he did it. I'm sorry I wasn't in Coolaroo anymore and that I didn't see you for so long. Rest easy D'wat, look after your mum (Rita, dearly missed and taken so suddenly) and the others who chose to leave this physical realm sooner than we wished. Love you buddy xoxo"

He had a way of making people smile, even when they were having a difficult day, and his laugh could fill a room. Although he faced struggles that were difficult for him to overcome, those struggles do not define who he was. I will always remember the love he gave, the memories we shared, and the happiness he brought to the people around him. Beth

"Remembering Beth; 1999 - 2025 In the words of Beth’s mother, Ali… “Beth was sweet, Beth was gentle. Beth was also ghoulish and loved scary movies, especially the ones with interesting monsters. They actually loved all movies. Low-budget horror clangers were on regular rotation, along with Fred Astaire and Hitchcock films and everything in between. It was pretty common to hear the phrase ‘Well that was terrible. We're not watching that again' but you can bet we had to watch it at least once more just to be sure it was as woeful as it seemed. Beth was clever and smart and funny. They had the best cackly laugh and such a wonderful sense of ridiculous mischief. They liked interesting things and for Beth the world was full of interest. Dinosaurs especially sauropods, uranium glass, electro swing music, reptiles, Lego, anime, novels and Manga. Beth had a passion for justice. They worried so much about the state of the world. If you read Discworld novels then … Beth had a spark of Granny Weatherwax in them when it came to the state of the world. Family mattered so much to Beth, they loved their important people so much. Beth made the world a better place just by being in it. They will always be the star of my heart, the jewel of my soul.” "

Fei Yang

"When I was in Year 5, I had a teacher named Chen Fei Yang. He was everyone’s favourite — young, lively, funny and kind. He had a way of understanding us and making us laugh. To us, he often felt more like a friend than simply a teacher. One afternoon after school, I saw him riding past me on his motorbike. Normally I would have called out and said hello, but that day he turned his face away. I still remember his eyes. They were red, as though he had been crying. As a child, I remember thinking it was strange to see a grown man cry. I knew something about him seemed different that day, but I was too young to understand what I was seeing. The next day, we learned that he had died by suicide. We later heard that he had been under enormous pressure surrounding his upcoming marriage and the expectations placed upon him. His death devastated all of us. We were only children, but losing someone we loved and admired in that way stayed with many of us for years. As I grew older and experienced more of life myself, I often thought back to that afternoon. I wondered what might have happened if one of us had stopped and spoken to him. Maybe someone would have made one of the silly jokes he always made for us. Maybe we could have reminded him, even for a moment, that he mattered to so many people. I know now that no single conversation can be assumed to change what someone is going through, and none of us could have known the depth of his pain. But I have never forgotten his eyes. More than anything, I wish he could have seen himself through the eyes of the children who adored him. I wish he had known how many lives he had already touched, and how deeply his absence would be felt. More than twenty years later, I still remember you, Teacher Chen. And whenever I think of you, I am reminded that sometimes the person who makes everyone else laugh may be carrying a pain nobody can see. So ask. Stay a little longer. Listen. Be kind. You may never know how much that small moment of human connection means to someone."
