DYFA Mates - Looking Out For Each Other
At DYFA, we spend a huge part of our lives at work, often side by side with the same people every day. Our work mates become an important part of our lives, which means we have an opportunity, and a responsibility, to look out for each other.
For our industry, that matters more than we might realise. Male construction workers are around twice as likely to die by suicide as other Australian men.
DYFA Mates is about being there for the people we work alongside every day. Checking in, speaking up, noticing when something isn't right and making sure our mates know they don't have to carry things alone.
This year, our team is taking part in Lifeline's Out of the Shadows walk in memory of those lost to suicide, including our former team member and mate, Joel, who we sadly lost last year. For many of us, this walk has a very personal meaning.
We'll be walking together to remember Joel and others who have been lost, and as a reminder to keep looking out for the people around us today. To start conversations, check in on our work mates, notice when something isn't right and make it easier for someone to speak up when they're doing it tough.
We're also proud to raise funds through the walk to support Lifeline and the important work they do for people experiencing crisis.
Join us for the walk
Thursday 10 September | 5.30am
We’ll meet at Maroochydore SLSC and walk together to Mooloolaba SLSC and back, before coming together for breakfast at Glass Wholefoods.
Everyone is welcome to join the DYFA Mates team and walk with us.
Our impact so far
We've raised $543 so far to answer 13 calls for Lifeline's crisis support hotline to connect and bring hope to people in crisis.
With your support, we can ensure that no person has to face their darkest moments alone.
