Every year Lifeline receives over 1 million contacts from people in crisis. I want to ensure that this vital service remains free for all Australians. World Suicide Prevention Day is September 10^th. To honour this day, people across Australia will be taking part in the “Out of the Shadows” walk and fundraiser. Aussies are coming together and walking 9km - that’s 1km for every Australian we tragically lose to suicide every day - on a day, time and location that works for them. 

My plan is to walk on Tuesday 9th September starting at 7am in the Sydney CBD. This year I’ve called the group "Team SB 2025" - I’m walking as an individual who has lived experience, as a person who has lost a friend and colleague to suicide and as a person who truly wants others to know that there is always hope.

This is my 4^th year walking and fundraising for Lifeline alongside family, friends and colleagues. Please join me on Tuesday 9th as we come together as a community of caring individuals in a movement of hope, remembrance and action. It will be a meaningful start to your day.

To register and receive a T-shirt to wear on the day (Tuesday 9th):
* Click on the "Join Us" button (on a desktop this is a blue button and on a phone it is an orange button - see image)

* Select: Individual/Team (note this is not a Workplace registered event)

* Please choose between “New Participant” or “Returning Participant”

* Join a Lifeline Centre: No

If you make a donation of $39+ you will get a followup email (in about an hour's time) with the subject "You've Unlocked your T-shirt" where you can click on the "Claim My T-Shirt" button and select your size. **Please do this asap so Lifeline has time to ship your t-shirt**

FAQs

Q: Sally, what do you mean you are walking as an individual?

A: This year I am purely walking and fundraising as "Sally". The walk has been planned to take place prior to your workday on Tuesday 9th September. All family, friends, colleagues (past and present) are welcome.

Q: Sally, aren’t you an R U OK? Ambassador? Why are you fundraising for Lifeline?

A: Yes, that’s correct, I am an R U OK? Community Ambassador and will be speaking at several events across Sydney this year. Lots of different groups and services combine to make a mentally healthy community. R U OK? is a suicide prevention charity that encourages people to stay connected and have meaningful conversations that can help others through difficult times whereas Lifeline provides a free 24/7 service to those in crisis. By supporting Lifeline we help ensure that these critical services remain free of charge for all Australians.

Q: World Suicide prevention day is Wednesday, September 10^th. Why are you planning a walk on Tuesday, September 9^th?

A: People will be taking part in “Out of the Shadows” walks at a time and place that suits them. I plan to walk on Tuesday, September 9^th @ 7:00am in Sydney CBD and I hope you can join me.

Q: I can’t make it to Sydney and/or I can’t attend on the day, can I still contribute?

A: Absolutely! I would love for you to join by making a donation to my team and by spreading the word to family and friends and encourage their support. If you walk 9km in your own community, I would love to see photos!
