I am embarking on a journey of remembrance and support, walking to honor the memories of those who have been lost to suicide and to extend a helping hand to individuals in the midst of crisis. The memory of my dear brother, Glen Kelly, who left us on September 3rd, 2009, remains etched in our hearts, an eternal flame of remembrance.
Tragically, the statistics are stark: each year witnesses over 65,000 brave yet desperate attempts at self-harm in Australia, with more than 3,000 souls succumbing to the grip of suicide. Amidst these numbers, Lifeline emerges as a beacon of hope, receiving and responding to more than a million cries for help from individuals facing their darkest moments.
The ripples of suicide extend far beyond the act itself, casting a long shadow of anguish upon friends and loved ones. On the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Day, I am dedicating myself to participating in the "Out of the Shadows" event, a symbolic walk representing the 9 lives lost to suicide every day.
My purpose in this endeavor is to raise vital funds for Lifeline, an organization dedicated to furnishing Australians with the tools and support necessary to prevent suicide. By supporting my walk and contributing as a sponsor, you have the opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of those grappling with crisis.
