Our Why?!
WHY WE’RE WALKING
This year, Colbz and I have decided to walk 9kms for the 9 Australians who lose their lives to suicide each day.
For us it’s not about having all the answers, or trying to speak for those who are experiencing their darkest moments, it’s about showing up.
We know that suicide affects more people than the person who passes. It reaches families, friends, children, colleagues and entire communities.
And we know that sometimes the people struggling the most are the ones who look fine from the outside. The ones we don’t often check in on.
We’re walking this year to help keep the conversation open.
To remind people that there is no shame in not being okay, and that reaching out, checking in and sitting beside someone can matter more than we realise.
Nine kilometres is a small sacrifice for our little legs, by comparison to the lives behind that number.
But it’s a way for us to use our feet, our voices and our corner of the world to show that those lives matter — and that the people here matter too.
On September 10, we’ll walk the 9kms together through the bush, turning the walk into something that feels like us — out in the bush, stalking and/or foraging, but during that, making space for a conversation that needs to keep happening.
If you’re struggling, you don’t have to carry it quietly.
I'm walking to remember those lost to suicide and help people in crisis
Tragically, every year over 65,000 Australians attempt to take their own life and over 3,000 Australians die by suicide.
Lifeline receives over 1 million contacts from people in crisis each year.
Suicide has devastating impact on friends and loved ones.
For World Suicide Prevention Day (Sept 10), I will be taking part in Out of the Shadows and walking for the 9 people lost to suicide every day.
I'm walking to raise funds for Lifeline to provide suicide prevention services and support for Australians in need.
Please support my walk and sponsor me to help those in crisis.
Together, we can ensure that no one has to face their darkest moments alone.
My impact so far
I've raised $107 so far to answer 2 calls for Lifeline's crisis support hotline to connect and bring hope to people in crisis.
With your support, we can ensure that no person has to face their darkest moments alone.
