My Walk

My Progress

0km

My Target

9km

Nine kilometres. Nine lives. Walk it with me, or fund the ones who answer when someone can't walk any further.

Dry January, for me and for my kids. Dry February, for mental health awareness. 3,307 push-ups in 24 days through June, one for every Australian we lose to suicide in a year.

Now 9km on 10 September. One kilometre for each of the nine Australians we lose to suicide every day.

Every year over 65,000 Australians attempt to take their own life, and tragically, over 3,000 die by suicide. Roughly 75% of them are men. Men who looked fine. Men who never asked for help. Men who didn't know how.

I'm a dad, an empath, and a recovering people pleaser who spent years putting everyone else's needs ahead of his own. I know what silence costs. I refuse to stay quiet about it and I refuse to add to the numbers when life gets too heavy to carry alone.

I'm not walking alone. I'm walking with a group of dads who've all been somewhere dark at some point, and who all made it back because somebody was there when they needed it most.

Every kilometre is a life lost yesterday, the day before, and the day before that.

$39 answers one call to Lifeline. Lifeline receives over 1 million contacts from people in crisis each year.

Every dollar you provide funds the service that answers the phone for the ones still here, ensuring they never have to face their darkest moments alone.

If you're reading this and it's landed close to home, the number is 13 11 14. It's answered 24 hours a day.

I'm not walking alone. I'm walking with a group of dads who've all been somewhere dark at some point, and who all made it back because somebody was there when they needed it most.

That's the difference. Not willpower. Not toughening up. Somebody being there.

Around 3,307 Australians die by suicide each year. Roughly 75% of them are men. Men who looked fine. Men who never asked for help. Men who didn't know how. I've been in a room full of blokes who all thought they were the only one, and I've watched what happens when one of them finally says it out loud.

Suicide has devastating impact on friends and loved ones.

For World Suicide Prevention Day (Sept 10), I will be taking part in Out of the Shadows and walking for the 9 people lost to suicide every day.

I'm walking to raise funds for Lifeline to provide suicide prevention services and support for Australians in need.

Please support my walk and sponsor me to help those in crisis.

Together, we can ensure that no one has to face their darkest moments alone.

Make an impact

Just $39 will enable Lifeline to answer a call to connect and bring hope to 1 person in crisis.

With your support, we can ensure that no person has to face their darkest moments alone.
