Out of the Shadows 2026

My Walk

My Progress

My Target

63km

I'm walking to remember those lost to suicide and help people in crisis

63 Kilometres. Out of the Shadows.

Each year, approximately 65 thousand Australians attempt to take their own life, and more than 3,000 Australians die by suicide.

Behind every number is a human-being.

A family member. A mate. A colleague. A veteran. A first responder. A neighbour. Someone who matters.

The impact of suicide reaches far beyond the individual. It is felt by families, friends, workplaces and entire communities.

For World Suicide Prevention Day — 10 September, I will be taking part in Lifeline’s Out of the Shadows and walking 63 kilometres, representing the approximately 63 Australians we lose to suicide every week.

My 63 km challenge-

I’ll step off on the night of Wednesday, 9 September, walking throughout the dark and into World Suicide Prevention Day on Thursday, 10 September.

My route will take me From Coal point, through to Belmont and all the way to Newcastle beach, with the goal of completing the full 63 kilometres in a single affair.

There is something meaningful to me about walking through the darkness and continuing into daybreak.

Because that is what suicide prevention can look like.

Sometimes we cannot immediately take away another person’s pain. But we can walk beside them through it. We can listen. We can stay connected. We can help them find the next step and remind them that they do not have to navigate their darkest moments alone.

Why I’m walking!!

Through my journey with mental health, suicide prevention and veteran and community services, I have seen the importance of connection and collaboration.

Services such as Lifeline provide vital crisis support across Australia, while community initiatives such as Lake Macquarie Safe Space provide a local, non-clinical place where people experiencing emotional distress or suicidal crisis can connect with trained peer volunteers who understand the value of lived experience.

Sometimes one conversation matters.

Sometimes words can pivot a life for ever.

Sometimes simply having somewhere safe to go matters.

Sometimes having another person willing to sit beside you matters.

That is why I am walking.

I am walking for the 63 people we lose each week.

I am walking for those who have attempted suicide and survived.

I am walking for the families, friends and communities carrying the loss of someone they love.

And I am walking for those who may be struggling today, to reinforce a simple message:

You do not have to walk through the darkness alone.

Support the 63 km walk

I am raising funds for Lifeline to help provide suicide-prevention services and crisis support to Australians when they need it most.

If you are able, please sponsor my walk. Every contribution helps support services that can be there when someone reaches out.

And if donating is not possible, you can still support the challenge — share the message, start a conversation, check in on someone, or even come down and walk a few kilometres alongside me…..

63 kilometres.
63 lives each week.
One night walking out of the shadows and into the light.

Together, we can help build communities where people experiencing their darkest moments know that support, connection and hope are still within reach.

Thank you 🙏🏼

My impact so far

I've raised $1,010 so far to answer 25 calls for Lifeline's crisis support hotline to connect and bring hope to people in crisis.

With your support, we can ensure that no person has to face their darkest moments alone.
