I'm walking to remember those lost to suicide and help people in crisis

On 13 August 2025, my Dad died by suicide.

There isn’t a single day that goes by where I don’t replay everything in my head.

What if I’d called him one more time? What if I’d visited more often? What if I’d noticed something everyone else missed? What if there was something I could have said or done that would have changed the outcome?

Those questions are the cruel reality of suicide loss. You know deep down that you may never have had the power to change what happened, but your heart still desperately searches for a different ending.

The grief is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. It’s not just missing Dad. It’s carrying the weight of all the things that will never be. The milestones he’ll never see. The conversations we’ll never have. The hugs I’ll never get again. It’s learning to live with a hole that can never truly be filled.

When someone dies by suicide, they don’t leave just one victim. They leave behind parents, children, siblings, partners, friends and entire communities whose lives are changed forever. Our family’s world was turned upside down that day, and we’ll never be the same.

The heartbreaking part is knowing that this is happening to nine Australian families every single day. Nine families who will wake up tomorrow with the same unbearable questions, heartbreak and pain.

On World Suicide Prevention Day, we’re walking for Dad. We’re walking for every family who has experienced this devastating loss. And we’re walking because if raising money for Lifeline means even one person gets the support they need in their darkest moment, then maybe another family won’t have to live with this heartbreak.

I couldn’t save my Dad.

That is something I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

But if sharing his story, walking in his memory and raising funds can help save someone else’s mum, dad, son, daughter, brother, sister or friend… then that’s exactly what I’ll do.

If you’re able to support us, no matter how small the donation, it would mean so much.

Thank you for helping us honour Dad’s life by fighting for someone else’s.
