I'm walking to remember those lost to suicide and help people in crisis
Sadly, a few months ago, my beautiful Mum lost her battle with her mental health and took her own life.
At first, I didn’t want anyone to know that this is how she passed as I didn’t want people to think of her differently, to see her in that way. I now realise how silly that was.
Would you think of someone any less if they passed away from any other kind of health issue? The answer is no. And the reality is that there is a stupid stigma around mental health that brings with it shame and embarrassment that nobody should have to feel.
Your mental health is just as important as your physical health, and you should never feel less than if you need some help. It really is okay not be okay, but it is so important not to hide those feelings, to seek the help that you need.
I am sharing this not only to honour my beautiful Mum, and help raise money for lifeline and suicide prevention, but also as a reminder:
Check in with the ones you love, know that you are not alone in your feelings and that you should never be ashamed to seek help, and remember that YOU ARE LOVED 💜
