I’m walking to remember my beautiful friend Georgie who we lost.
The day we lost her, the world shifted. I still reach for my phone to tell her things. I still hear her laugh in my head. And I still wish, every single day, that she knew how loved she was.
Her absence is felt every single day, and the heartbreak of losing someone you love this way never truly fades.
Tragically, every year in Australia, over 65,000 people attempt to take their own life, and more than 3,000 die by suicide. That’s 9 people every single day. Each loss leaves behind a ripple of grief that touches countless friends, families, and communities.
Lifeline receives over 1 million contacts from people in crisis every year. Their work saves lives but they can only do it with our help.
For World Suicide Prevention Day (Sept 10), I’ll be taking part in Out of the Shadows, walking for Georgie, and for every life lost too soon.
I’m raising funds for Lifeline so they can keep answering the calls of those in crisis, and maybe, just maybe, help someone choose tomorrow.
